My wife requested that I post this. :)

She wants to know why it is that Deborah could be a judge, or ruler of Israel, yet there are verses such as the one that follows that mentions "women keep silence in the churches." So what exactly should the roll of women be in the church.

Judges 4:4 And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time.

1 Corinthians 14:34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

oh man....not this one again...

This gets covered about 4 times a year on the Worthy Boards...

It never brings fruit....but here goes...

I believe those passages of Paul spoke about a culture where women weren't educated and therefore could not read the Word of God...much less preach it. While it is obvious that men should be in authority (because Adam came first and Eve was made from his rib) the disagreement comes about whether a woman has anything to offer in the way of teaching inside the walls of the church.

It's silly to say that they don't but many people do just that....

And there is some reason to believe that the teachings in that particular church of Paul's day were being interrupted by women shouting across the room to their husbands for clarification. Paul was saying that this was disrupting order in the congregation.

Yet the classic western cultural interpretation is that all women should shut up once they enter the doors of a church...and that seems to be the prevelant thought when this topic gets brought up.

There are soooooooo many contradictions in that way of thinking that it's pointless to argue. Those who choose to believe this way will not be swayed because they don't want to see.

Just tell your wife that all children of God have been given the ministry of reconciliation.....and she should do that will her whole heart no matter what others think.

You can't use Deborah as an example....she was a judge over public ( civil ) matters, not over matters of the Church or the body of believers....kinda a proverbial comparing apples & oranges....

All I'll say on this matter is, woman are indeed called to carry out God's calling in whatever capacity HE calls them to...( and I'll leave it at that  )

Bob...Don't mention Oranges!

I don't think it really matters if the same subjects are repeated because if you have participated in them before and are reluctant to do so again...you can either download previous and relevant material or you can just mosey over to a different topic..there are enough new faces and those that still enjoy a good but familiar argument to make it all worthwhile.cart086.gif

Since women are usually far better cooks than men, I believe that monthly Fellowship Breakfasts should serve women's rolls, rather than men's.

If, however we're talking about women's 'role' in the Church, my opinion could be substantially changed.................

Sorry, just had to toss that in. :x:

1Ti 2:12  But I don't permit a woman to teach, nor to exercise authority over a man, but to be in quietness.

1Ti 2:13  For Adam was first formed, then Chavah.

1Ti 2:14  Adam wasn't deceived, but the woman, being deceived, has fallen into disobedience;

1Ti 2:15  but she will be saved through her childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and sanctification with sobriety.

Without really nailing my flag to the mast on this issue I think there is enough evidence to suggest that there is a divine order to what G-d has ordained and this is for a reason. (You can see this in the function of the Godhead)

A man and a woman are very different (in case you hadn't noticed) both physically and emotionally...you don't generally send the women off to war while the men look after the home and the kids...you don't generally find that the bulk of world leaders are women.etc.

Similarly throughout the Bible the amount of times women are in overall charge of Israel or operate in a High-priestly function are either very few or non-existant...and when it happens it is often to make up for the lack found in men...but it is not the norm.

In the NT the Apostles were all men...and the vast amount of preaching and establishing of Churches was all done by men I feel this has something to do with G-ds order and the sort of pressures and responsibilities that are meant to be the domain of the man and not the woman...and in no way is this meant to demean the women...it is just the way it seems that G-d has planned it.

In China at the moment...many of the preachers are women...and many are teenagers and have established many Churches...this is because so many men are in prison...and G-d will use whoever is available to establish his kingdom.

The L-rd wants his best for us as individuals and for the Church as a whole and the order in which He has ordained leadership in the Church certainly seems to indicate that it works best when a man is Leading and that is the way G-d intended it to be.

I have mentioned this on a previous thread that discussed this subject.

The problems at Corinth called for local solutions to the particular difficulties in the church. At Corinth, eating and drinking took place in private, not at the church (there goes the Baptists! he he!) At Corinth, women spoke at home, not while in church. Prostitution associated with pagan religion at Corinth, and other difficulties probably necessitated Paul's words. In other contexts, women prayed prophesied and advanced the kingdom of God.

And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head--it is just as though her head were shaved. 1 Corinthians 11:5

One of those listening was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul's message. When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. "If you consider me a believer in the Lord," she said, "come and stay at my house." And she persuaded us. Acts 16:14-15

He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately. Acts 18:26

So when taken in context with other scripture, Paul was just speaking to this church at Corinth, due to the problem with the Pagan women coming into the church and trying to lead the men astray.

Throughout the Bible we see women who have taken leadership positions. Here are a couple examples.

Barak said to her, "If you go with me, I will go; but if you don't go with me, I won't go." "Very well," Deborah said, "I will go with you. But because of the way you are going about this, the honor will not be yours, for the LORD will hand Sisera over to a woman." So Deborah went with Barak to Kedesh, where he summoned Zebulun and Naphtali. Ten thousand men followed him, and Deborah also went with him. Judges 4:8-10

The whole book of Esther.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
