Actually did read the article, and she specifically mentions lowering the security measures.

This is what it says about security...

Last year several Palestinian students from Gaza who were awarded Fulbright scholarships ran into difficulty entering Israel to complete the application process, and two of them were subsequently denied entry visas to the United States on security grounds.

Micaela Schweitzer-Bluhm, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem, said efforts were being made to enable Gazans to participate in American-sponsored projects despite the security challenges.

Nothing is said about lowering anything.

50 years, has it been that long, guess some folks are slow learners...maybe us...maybe them.

it was a rough estimate

No it wasn't a joke, if folks have already been going to other colleges around the middle east and europe why should I think that their system is lacking. Sounds to me like they have a good system in place already...why should we get involved.

What do you know about the educational system in Palestein? Is there any reason to suggest or think that it is on par with the systems in the US or other places?

Which do you think would be more effective 25 well educated Palestinians returning to Palestein each year helping to show others there is more to life than what they see, or 33 bombs dropped?

1st paragraph in article states that 10 scholarships will be awarded to disadvantaged students to attend Palesteinian universities.....now this is an assumption on my part, but if their universities are graduating students and these folks are out and about working and continuing their education, then they must have a functioning system.

In the 6th paragraph it states that they will work towards having these students participate despite the security challenges...ok...so how is this accomplished, how does a person come to the United States despite security challenges...if this isn't suggesting lowering the security, then it must mean making a special visa or something similar...as far as I'm concerned it means lowering security measures for certain individuals until proven otherwise.

well i'd rather spend that dime on candy for a child who has nothing in THIS country. besides, i don't know if you're aware of this, but inflation has pushed candy prices up way past a dime. so much for your analogy.

there's nothing wrong with a person working their way through college. but if you think the average student can earn enough money to pay for their college tuition and books during this day and time, you're sadly mistaken.

i'm offended that anyone would think it's ok to spend 900 million on 10 full, four year scholarships plus an additional 25 grants for disadvantaged palestinians (or anyone else) when that 900 million could be educating disadvantaged students in our own back yard.

Well, I know you were talking to RG, but if I read correctly the 900 million is for aid...only an additional million is for the scholarships....still, you'd think some of the 900 million could go for education...and I agree...keep the money here.

1 million or 900 million, even if i got it wrong, is not really the issue for me. ANY money that is going to help people when we have millions of people starving to death in our own country is too much.

Does it cost $90,000,000 for one person to go to college for 4 years??????

nope... apparently i misunderstood, the 900 million was for aid to the country (which i also object to) and only 1 million for the underprivileged palestinians to get their college education.

according to http://apps.collegeboard.com/fincalc/college_cost.jsp, if you run the calculator with the standard info they have for four years at a private college, adjusting for inflation, it costs over $200,000 per student, NOT including text books, dorm, or anything else. just for the tuition. i'm lousy at math, but i think $200,000 x 10 comes out to that million bucks she wants to give away. that's ten american students who are being denied the same benefits that is being given away to non-citizens.

I object to this for a number of reasons.

1) We are in a financial crisis.

2) Sec. Clinton has not demonstrated that the educational system in Palestein is so lacking as to need help from the U.S.

3) Why do they need to come to America, Europe, Asia and the middle East all have very good schools.

4) Why lower the security measures just because a person wants to go to college, does pursuit of higher education make a person less of a risk.

5) How has the government of Palestein demonstrated in the past that any peaceful out reach has furthered negotiations.

And to answer your question about bombs...yes...especially if they continue to make war against Israel, who happens to be our ally.

I remember when 2 bombs were droped and it ended a war.

can i answer that? i'd never say let's nuke people simply for disagreeing with us, but it's certainly a biblical concept to destroy an entire nation if the core of that nation is evil.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
