Hi.

I mean no disrespect to the Amish bretheren but to be under the gun like what has been said seems wrong?;

"It is quite a process to become one if you were not born into it. They spent several years on their farm under a microscope by the church to make sure they were real in their faith." [/quopte].

Jesus never required any such scrutiniy for entry into His Eternal Life?

What about the repentant sinner next to Jesus?

"And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise." (Luke 23:42-43).

There seems to me to be no need to be spending several years under a microscope to make sure anyone's faith is real?

Haz.

Getting into Heaven and getting into an Amish community are 2 entirely different things. It's too bad mainstream Christians don't have the conviction that these people have.

Thanks momofmany5 that was some good information. I myself think the Old Order Faith Groups and those similiar to them have a better understanding on many issues of Christianity, than we in the modern world, I'm also with you I think I would love to be part of one of these groups.

You must understand that going into the Amish faith is much more then just living their simple way of life. That life style is very tough and there is no maybe about it, there are going to be some hard times. One of the things you will be giving up is the gift God has given us, called modern medicine. More then once I have read in the paper of a Amish child dieing when modern medicine may have saved them.

Thanks for the advice oldzimm, I apologiy those I said I would love to be in their group not that I would. For reason beyond my control I honestly couldn't. If it wasn't for one in particular I would definitely try. But I won't state what it is just that it is a road block right now.

The Amish use modern medicine, at least the ones that live here do. They do not believe in government involvement in any way though and thus do not use Medicaid or Medicare but pay for their medical care in cash or credit with the doctors or hospitals. When a member of their community gets sick they all pitch in and thus have a form of self insurance. It is kind of interesting though because they will not use all modern medicine. For example pace-makers would be a problem and some other devices that may be needed at home. But in general if they get sick they go to a doctor.

They also use some gas powered machinery to do certain farm tasks, in particular where we live they run saw mills and in these cases will use gas powered engines.

I personally know two Amish families. They indeed have a more works based idea although we don't really get into it. They have no interest in spreading the Word outside of their group, which for me is kind of a problem although their lifestyle is so different from modern culture that it stands as a form of spreading the Word. Anyway I think we can learn some things from them, we can take the good parts and leave the rest. We are FAR too materialistic for one and we see from them that you don't need things to be happy or be a Christian. We also buy into modern culture far far too much and we can learn some things from them about resisting this.

To me a more interesting group are the hudderites. Also ana-babtist, but Hudderites live communally in the way of Acts where everyone owns things together.

Amen. All healing comes from Jesus. Electricity, I thank Jesus everyday for it. All good things come from Jesus. I don't want to go backwards...I want to press forward. I believe Jesus wants us to work smarter...not harder. I love being able to get things done so I can spend time with my family. I believe in working hard but also playing hard. I love my horses but when it comes to harvesting hay, a tractor can work circles around them. I love my horses but when it comes to travel ....trucks and automobiles work circles around them. But there is nothing like taking in the sights of this beautiful world from from the back of a horse. I love a simple life but it has nothing to do with working your fingers to the bone because you think it's pleasing to Jesus to reject modern technology.

They are a perfect example of taking the Holy Word of Jesus Christ... come up with some bondage lifestyle of doctrine of man .

I thought they were pretty entertaining when we visited the Amish country. For folks that are against the worldly evils, they sure like to get money for their products. Trying to get them to talk about the Lord Jesus is like pulling teeth from a horse. And don't even think about taking a picture or a video...and cherishing a memory...Satan must have invented the camera.

And they didn't seem all that joyful...i guess they hold it inside.

Like I said before...know your own people...know your own kind. How they live and what they do is between them and Almighty Jesus. I just hate to see people and especially children in such bondage. Give me a break...a picture

I love roughing it in the woods....but if Jesus would open a door and provide me with a nice 4 horse living quarters gooseneck trailer...with all the modern electronic gadgets...and generator...I would leave the rough life in a second...and be thankful...sing praises of joy...and howl at the moon...

people should be grateful when blessings like electricity and modern stuff comes your way...I know I am...and I don't want to go backwards................a picture....now I've seen everything

Yes you are right, I was wrong to make it seem like all Amish turn away modern medicine. I have seen Amish at the doctors also, I think it depends on how strict their order might be on how much of the modern medicine they will accept.

I don't think getting money for their products really has anything to do with them not being involved with worldly evils. If that bothers you then I suppose you can pass it by and not buy from them. Like you said , how they live and what they do is between them and Jesus , so maybe just respect that and go on. Why were you wanting their picture so bad anyway? You said they were entertaining , well they are also humans with feelings and they do believe in Jesus as the Son of God , so even if they do things and believe a little different is no reason to belittle them. And just because they did not show you any "joy" does not mean they are in bondage. Who are you to judge that?

This is a good site that elaborates on what they believe and how they live. They use doctors for childbirth and medication and seek out medical help which is paid by the order...

Thanks for the info. I was always wondering about this.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
