I have a quick temper. I know that this is part of my sinful human nature, and I daily struggle with it. Since I became a Christian about 13 years ago, God has done amazing things with my anger and has made me a more compassionate and calmer person. ANY good that comes out of me is from Christ living within me.

That being said, I blew up last night over something stupid and sinned against God. ("Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger." Eph. 4:26 ESV). I didn't do anything to hurt anyone physically, but I was.... well, a bit of a jerk. Afterwards, I felt the Holy Spirit leading me into a time of fasting for seven days, and also to take a vow of silence for 24 hours, so that God may deal more directly with me regarding my temper.

My question is this: do you think that a vow of silence is biblical? I can't find an example of someone deliberately taking a vow of silence in God's holy word. I don't want to do ONE SINGLE THING outside the will of God, and if this vow I have taken for 24 hours is not biblical, then I don't want to do it.

What do you think?

I think silence is a spiritual discipline. We are commended to be silent before the Lord. When I have practiced this it has made me aware of how much of my talk is useless. It also helpe me focus on God and hearing Him. I would recommend if you have never fasted for a long time before to see a doctor first

If you believe the Lord instructed you to keep quiet for a time, it's best to just keep quiet for a time.

What I have learned is that anger problems are a result of wounds in your soul. Dealing with the anger, then, is about dealing with those wounds.

But also, there is the element of habit and choice. I suspect that the Lord instructing you to be silent is about dealing with the habit/choice aspect of your anger.

I know that isn't the answer you were asking for, but I hope it helps you anyway.

It's so great to hear my brothers and sisters expressing concern not only for spiritual well-being, but also for physical well-being as well. :D Thank you! :)

I have fasted before, and it's something that I am capable of doing safely.

Actually, you gave me something about which to think. Thank you. Would you mind being in prayer for me regarding this?

Thanks!

The Holy Spirit will not lead you to do anything which is contrary to what we learn in the Bible. I cannot think of a reason that silence for 24 hours would be contrary to God's word, and may be a lesson in disciplin. You might tell the people around you that you are doing this so that they won't be offended if you don't answer when spoken to.

Apparently there were times in the life of Ezekiel that the LORD had him be silent:

Eze 24:27 In that day shall thy mouth be opened to him which is escaped, and thou shalt speak, and be no more dumb: and thou shalt be a sign unto them; and they shall know that I am the LORD.

Also, David had this to say:

Psa 141:3 Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.

Hope that helps.

I've never seen anything in Scripture about taking a vow of silence before the Lord. It would be like trying to pay for your sin yourself.

Actually, that does help. Thank you. I'm about 13 hours into this, and the Lord has shown me many mighty things. With my mouth closed, and my mind open, I have spent a lot of time in God's holy word and, like Elijah, I have been "undone", falling to my knees in tears and refusing to look up due simply to how holy God is. I've experienced this when fasting, but didn't know how amazing God's presence would be in complete silence.

A big "thank you" to you folks for your support and prayer.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
