Which version of Judgement do you accept?

The owners of this board have stated the following:

We believe that immediately upon death, the soul of the believer is absent from the body, and present with the Lord.

This would indicate that the doctrine followed here would be one of Particular Judgement. But what does Scripture say about that?

I have heard since I was a very little boy the words 'absent from the body, and present with the Lord. However, when you look at the Scripture, this is what it actually says...............

KING JAMES VERSION:

"6Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:

7(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

8We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."

This is clearly different than what I've been taught. This is saying they wish to be absent from the body and present with the Lord. Just to be sure, I looked at the New King James................

NEW KING JAMES VERSION:

"6 So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord."

Again, they would rather be absent with the body and present with the Lord,................I believe it is safe to say..........wouldn't we all!!!

Just to check a third time, I looked at the New International Version.............

NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION:

"Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. 7We live by faith, not by sight. 8We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord."

Again..............prefer.

This is quite different from what I have always been taught. Further, the bible states repeatedly that 'the dead know nothing', and 'the dead sleep'. So, how do we reconcile the two schools of thought, or is reconciliation even possible?

There seems to be two trains of thought for this subject and that is that when a Christian dies, he goes directly to be with the Lord. The other thought is that we sleep until the resurection. The old testament tells us that those that sleep know nothing.

So I put it to everyone that to the Christian who dies, he/whe would know difference between the two. If the "soul sleep" is actually true, the person who dies will not know the difference, so why should we get all worked up about it.

Truly, it doesn't matter.

The Apostle Paul also address this in Philippians Chapter 1 where he writes

For me to live is Christ, to die is gain

But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour; yet what I shall choose, I was not.

For I am in a strait between, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ, which is far better:

Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.

And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;

That you rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again vs. 21-26

The Apostle Paul here is clearly saying that the death of the flesh means to be with the Lord. He tells of his dilemma to die and be with Christ, but his time is not up yet, as he must remain in his earthly body to press on in the faith and for the brethren's sake.

They will sleep until the Lord Jesus returns and then the dead in Christ shall rise, followed by the living believers, to be taken up and to be judged, and on that day some will face the second death, and some will be rewarded with immortality.

But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.

Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
