Knowing all of this I am one who believes in free speech very strongly. Also I believe that as Americans if we would use the free speech that our Constitution has given us then they can't take it away only if you let them silence us.

I know that I have a right to free speech and I do not have to change.

As Lady C said, that she did not have to change what she labled Ellen as I have called her the same thing all the way back to her first days on TV and that was Ellen degenerate and I will not change that name either.

The fact that you know the generally accepted meaning that people have when they hear the nickname 'degenerate' applied to Ellen Degeneres, and still attempt to defend your right to call her that, speaks volumes.

What does this have to do with the legality of speaking out against deviate behaviour? As for me calling Ellen a degenerate, Romans 1 calls her a reprobate if God calls her that then I am safe to call her a degenerate.

Psa 37:30 The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice.

Oh how I have to watch my tongue every minute of every day. I cannot judge here, because I have fallen short so many times, but I really think that our tongue should be used in wisdom, and love.

I have nothing against you speaking out against deviant behavior, if you do what the Word tells you to do and salt your words with grace. Romans 1 calls lesbians reprobate, but that isn't the full story. Romans also goes on to say that there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. Preach the whole message. Simply shouting "degenerate" is not preaching the gospel of law and grace, it's merely name calling. Don't confuse the two.

The Bible says those in the homosexual lifestyle are reprobates. If someone called Ellen a reprobate, would you consider that name calling? The word reprobate is just as bad as the word degenerate. Ellen is not in Christ Jesus so that comment is irrelivant to the discussion. Nobody was witnessing to Ellen. She is not part of this conversation.

If someone is wrong to call Ellen a degenerate, then one could make the case that the Bible is wrong to call her a reprobate, and we know God cannot be in the wrong. I just came across this thread and these comments in defense of Ellen are absurd to me. I never saw anyone shouting "degenerate." I just saw the word mentioned in relation to Ellen. I have heard a lot of people call her that after the way she did that "coming out of the closet" mess on her old sitcom and was involved in that scandle with Anne Hache. I agree with OC and LadyC that she is a degenerate.

To JCISGD, I don't see any wisdom in the comments you are lifting up. The people that keep making those comments are only keeping the issue alive. Had they simply let it go, the name degenerate likely wouldn't have come up again. What you had was one person after another making judgemental comments about LadyC and OC over a word they used. They will defend a practicing lesbian and attack those who come against her. The Bible also talks about people who call evil good and good evil.

hi ya all, im probably behind the eight ball here in NZ as we get your programmes months later sometimes, but today while flicking channels, for some reason i decided to watch some of Ellen Whats her name, the lesbian, who has a tv show.

Anyway they were talking about getting the hate law in place and i suddenly thought yeah, they are calling it love to accept sin and that anyone who rejects the behaviour of others is a hater. This is more than being against true hate or true hate speech with which i myself agree, but that no one can speak out against others choice of sexual behaviour or anything disagreeable to them.

I know none of this is new but Satan is now more than ever coming as an angel of light/love and using the media to portray Christians as haters. Its the "left behind" movie in reality. Hold on folks its not long till we get to go home, and for some it in the west it will mean being martyred.

JCISGD, since this thread has gone off into left field a bit, I went back to the OP to see what you had to say. I agree with you that when it gets to the place where ministers have to fear prosecution for simply preaching the Bible, we are in a sad state of affairs. I also agree that the Lord's return cannot be far off. In America, we have a Constitutional right to free speech which should trump all hate crime laws. I personally oppose all hate crime legislation as we also are supposed to have a right to equal justice under the law. I think they should be challenged in court.

But no one will ever cause anyone's heart to turn toward Christ by calling them derogatory names, IMO, and I don't see where the teachings of Jesus or apostles advocate or promote it.

And, you didn't answer my question. What possible good can come out of it??

hi Butero, yep not long now. Although a little shocked when i heard the anger in Ellens voice, I did think it was cause to rejoice that Christ was soon coming back rather than dismay at the state of things. We have read the end of the book so to speak and apart from a restless night, we get to wake up to breakfast in bed.

In the Word the disciples saw a man who was preaching in the name of Christ and they asked Jesus if he wanted them to go and stop this man but Jesus said, let him alone for who is for us cannot be against us. We may not all do things the same way but it doesn't mean we should leave others alone we're on the same team.

I'm also reminded of a prophet who called the people vipers among so many names that were labels. Jesus as to the suprise of many called people vipers, hypocrites, whited sepulecures amoung many other things that was demeaning but truth at the same time.
