What traumatic event has changed your life forever?

I think for it was when my marriage broke up especially when I was 3600 miles away from my family! :):) And I had two kids at the time 3 and 4. And it was only after 5 years of marriage to a preacher's kid who told he was a Christian. But once we moved to Vancouver turned into a totally different person. That broke my heart and took years of therapy to come to a place where I could deal with it. When I married this man I assumed it was for life so when it fell apart so did I. Now I had two children to raise by myself and no idea where to start or how to go about it. So that began a long struggle that was very traumatic not only to me, but for the kids, my family and his family. What event changed your life forever?

Marilyn, can I just say that you have such a talent or gift (I don't know) for coming up with the best topics! :)

In regards to the topic, I have been blessed and have not had to many traumatic events in my life. The one that sticks out in my mind is when my father had a massive heart attack in 2000 and he died a few times and we didn't think he would live. Since then he has recovered physically, but mentally he is not the same. He was without air for too long and it affected his memory. He has long term memory, but no short term, so he is just not the same person anymore. I really lost my dad that day in 2000. But, as my favorite verse says, ALL things work together for good to them that love God... and I love God with all my heart, so it is nothing but good for me and my family. :il:

Thank You Called for the compliment! :) I do spend alot of time researching topics and I have a very inquisitive mind I'm always thinking and trying to find answers to questions

I'm sorry about your dad Called but at least you still have him to hug that is something to be thankful for. God still has plans for him and I'm sure every time you are with him you feel blessed that he is there on some level. I know its hard to cope sometimes but I know God gives us His strength and sends people into our lives to help us get through these situations. God Bless

Well a nut case tried to strangle me to death on a bus in the town where I was going to college years ago. I had never even seen the guy before, just started to strangle me from behind. No one on the bus even tried to stop him, I think they were all terrified. It really messed my life up, but at the time, I did not realize it.

Left school, moved out of the state, did not trust people anymore. Fortunately, 4 years later, I trusted two strangers enough to invite them into our house, and I got saved.

Wow 2bba how did you get out of that situation how did you make him stop. I think I would be trying to sit in the very last seat on the bus from now on! I can see where that would mess a person up big time. I don't know how you get over something like that. Thanks for sharing.

I would have to agree here. This was the most traumatic for me thus far. God has been so good to my family. In this time he really carried us in His arms and gave us comfort. When the doctors told us that he was likely never to regain consciousness and if he did he would be a vegetable, we ignored them and prayed and God delivered him. God is the Great Physician and he chose to keep my dad around for a while longer. We are blessed.

What traumatic event changed my life forever????

Since I am still young there could be something more traumatic come along, but this would still prolly be at the top.

When I was 11 or 12 my brother sexually misused me. my sister was involved, objects were involved, and for me it lasted for a summer. I never enjoyed what was happening to me. I always felt dirty because of it. The things I saw....he'd put on t.v. shows...(do you know the junk that comes on late at night! :x: ) My innocent pure mind became infiltrated with garbage. Because I trusted my sister, she led me to do other things. And yeah I take the blame for doing them, but I realize now it wasn't all my fault. I learned to hate myself even more. Being fat, I never like the way I looked, and never felt secure, but after that I loathed myself, and every single thing about me. It made me interested in shows such as CSI, CI, SVU, shows that showed the bad guys getting caught. I loved watching Life Time, and how the women over came. Only I Was so confused. I wasn't raped, it was consenual, but then again it was unwanted. Now I understand those dirty jokes that parents say to other adults when they think the kids aren't listening. My mind has been corrupted. It has changed my life forever. I have issues with guys. I kind of lumped them into one perverted catergory. (Only God has changed that now by Sending SavedByGravce, LcpGuy, Scots, CRG and other of you men into my life, showing that my assumptions were wrong) I used to not ever ever ever want to have sex (and I am still pretty much not wanting too) but the Lord, wants me to have kids, and I need to be there for my husband. My first boyfriend (about a year ago) wanted to kiss me. And I was so hurt and scared. The first thing my brother did was "teach" me how to kiss. My image of kiss, of sex, of initimacy, has been tarnished. I've learned to love myself for who I am. God has sent people into my life to help me deal with this. GymRose, Nebula, IslandRose, BPC, Traveller, many of the ladies here have helped me to forgive myself, and to really see that God loves me, and that I am pure and white as snow. They've taught me alot and I praise God for them.

sorry, mine was a little long.

Hippo, you have such an AMAZING testimony! Every time you give that testimony the devil is flinching. He hates that you tell others about what God has done in your life! In the story of Joseph we see where his brother's when they sold him into slavery meant it for evil, they wanted Joseph dead. But, God took that situation and turned it for good and Joseph prospered!

But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive. Genesis 50:20

That situtation you went through was meant for evil, but God has turned it into good and now you have a testimony that will help many women, who have also been effected my sexual abuse!

You are so awesome girl! :o

I second that Hippo! What the devil meant for harm you have allowed God to use for good.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
