Had my direct ape ancestor been eaten 25 mya by a lion I would not be here today and quite likely you wouldn't either.

If you had a direct ape ancestor you would be a chimpanzee, my friend. And, as such, you wouldn't be posting here.

It is a misconception that humans are descended from chimps. They are cousins. It's the evidence that finally persuaded Dennis Venema. Being a geneticist he understood what the evidence was saying.

I realize that evolutionists believe that. I was speaking in broad terms. :whistling:

Scientists are complaining that the new Dinosaur movie shows dinosaurs with lemurs, who didn't "evolve" for another million years. They're afraid the movie will give kids a mistaken impression. What about the fact that the dinosaurs are singing and dancing? - Jay Leno

So, it's about finding identity? Is that what you are saying?
No one has ever asked me to self-anylize my interest in evolution before. I developed an interest in evolution in my teens. I have no idea why other than I thought it was very cool. It's a process of discovery -- realizing who and what we really are. Maybe it is about finding identity. I don't really know.

Well, I have to dig because I am trying to understand why it is you guys are passionate enough about this to try to convince those of us with religious beliefs on the matter that we need to change our beliefs about it.

Devout Christians always bring up the spectre of meaninglessness. I can't relate to that concern. I see us as the product of a long chain of chance events, and it really doesn't bother me in the least.

And this is something I don't understand . . . not caring about meaning, purpose, etc.

 I don't see how saying an ancestor survived long enough to reproduce is a claim that evolution saved your life.
I didn't mean that. If my ape ancestor had been eaten 25 mya, before reproducing, then the whole lineage that led to me would never have existed.

But evolution is based on populations, not individuals.

Nor do I see how that compares to direct intervention.
Maybe it doesn't, or maybe it does. My point is that if any of my ancestors in the 4 billion year history of life on earth had been killed before reproducing I would not be here and neither would any member of my family. Maybe humanity owes its very existence to the same kind of chance, or fate. It is something to think about. What are the odds of that kind of luck? That is the one thing that makes me think there might be a God. That's why I am not prepared to call myself an atheist. The intervention of a higher power may have been necessary to preserve the lineage leading to humans. There is your direct intervention.

Well, that's an interesting way of looking at it.

And I still fail to see why ancestors surviving makes you want Creationists to believe in evolution?
It doesn't. You were pushing me to explain my interest in evolution. I was trying to accomidate you.

Because I am not understanding, and I am wanting to.

As for me, it would be rather difficult for me to have my Y-chromosome tested.
Are you female? Do our profiles show that? Oh. Then a near male relative perhaps? :emot-hug:

Yeah, well, I get accused of being a male so often, that I've reverted to just making a joke out of it. It helps me to keep my sanity. :)

As for male relatives - I don't see any of them caring enough.

It is not so much that I don't care, as I see it as just a fact of life and so accept it. A person who has always had sight, who suddenly becomes blind is probably going to spend a lot of time worrying themselves about it, but a person blind from birth likely just accepts the reality of it and doesn't let the condition worry him.

This is an apt description of an atheist. Whether the 'birth' of denial of God is the actual beginning of life, or some point down the road, you are indeed very much like a blind person. I will pray for you to have your eyes opened, Marsh.

More than once, but that hasn't affected the way I think of God.

So you have hope in nothing? What is your grief like? So that which was so unique, a love so very real just went back to the goo? I am curious on what a heart is like that believes up from the goo we arose! Love Steven

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
