As I go through the Bible again I am faced with many questions. One of the biggest is what explanation is there for the numerous contradictions in the Bible? Not just between the Old and New Testament, but the contradictions within the New Testament itself?

Also, this verse confuses me:

First of all their paradoxes in the Bible (not contradictions) and they're there for good reason. Most simplistically, I feel, is that there has to be more emphasis on faith then understanding. God is One, yet we believe in a Trinity etc.

To answer your question - though I don't disagree with what was written - I'll refer you to a passage that can make you ponder your question a bit more:

"Jesus said to him,'If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me." So the saying spread abroad among the brothers that this disciple will not DIE [my emphasis], but, "if it is my will that he remain until I come, what is it to you?" (John 22:23)

Are you using a Bible that has a good reference, scope notes and concordance??

I use the NKJ with New Scofield but there are so many that are good that could shed light on what appear to be contradictions. As said before There are NO contradictions in the Bible you just need to find the confirmation points of the passage that you are looking at and check it out.

First I am not worried about contridictions in the bible. I am sure you could find many if you realy look hard with a microsope ill give an example. David and goliath, I would asume that david killed goliath but second samueal 21 says some guy named Elhanan killed him.

That is not a contadiction either. 2 Samuel 21:19 says, "And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim, a Bethlehemite, slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam."

Most of the so-called contradictions are not really contradictions at all.

Also, this verse confuses me:

Matthew 16

24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me. 25 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. 26 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?[l] Is anything worth more than your soul? 27 For the Son of Man will come with his angels in the glory of his Father and will judge all people according to their deeds. 28 And I tell you the truth, some standing here right now will not die before they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom."

If this is true, why are those people dead when Jesus has not yet come in his kingdom?

There are in the literal interpretation camp 3 suggested understandings:

1. Pentecost.

2. Destruction of Jerusalem.

3. Mount of transfiguration.

Of these three I believe the Mt. Transfiguration because it was there His Glory- His transcended state was seen by Peter, John and James.

I have studied the doubts and disbeliefs of many area in God's Word and they all are being understood as God sees fit to reveal His special treasures to His Children! Always remember the Lord sees us as sheep, sheep are not the sharpest things in the world :noidea: ! Also satan would like nothing better for you to doubt God's Word that way when real trouble hits it will be the last thing you think of turning to when it is the only thing we can turn to!!!

Love Steven P.S. Attitude is everything to God for it comes from the heart-

Ps 34:17-18

17 The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears,

And delivers them out of all their troubles.

18 The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart,

And saves such as have a contrite spirit.

Most of the so-called contradictions are not really contradictions at all.

While I agree it is not a contradiction, this from the KJV does not really help.

To keep things on the up and up, it should be noted that KJV translators italicized words they put into the text that do not appear in the original language, this is the case with II Sam 21:19.

What we really have going on here is most likly a coppiest error in II Sam since 1 Chron. 20:5 tells us the same thing, but adds in the brother part, which is consistent with the what we know from the rest of the Bible.

It is true that those words were added by the translators. In making the transition from Hebrew to English, they often times had to add words for accuracy sake or so it would make sense. I believe they got it right in stating that this was Goliath's brother, and not the man David slew.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
