I have been in the military, police, and nature conservation anti poaching, (still do some of that, with our rhino problems escalating as they are), and I have never walked into a gunfight with a knife.

That would just be plain silly.

And another point-yes, a person with a history of alcohol abuse shouldnt drink alcohol. A person with a history of gun violence shouldnt have a gun either. But, on the reverse side of the coin-not everyone has a problem with alcohol, and neither does everybody have a history of gun abuse. A gun is a hunk of wood, metal, or plastic (depending on what its made out of) what its used for is entirely dependant on the user. A gun is not a temptation for most people, just like a glass of crown sitting on a table isnt a temptation for many people. To say its a temptation for everyone is a blanket assumption, and a false one at that.

Even so, it is no different than someone who has a family history of low alcohol tolerance buying him/herself beer with the intent to drink. Though perhaps not to the point of a drunken stupor...it is still inviting trouble or the potential thereof in.

Owning a weapon is not simply done to have it laying around, but with the intent to use it.

here are some more things in the home that is there with the intent to use, bucher knife, bread knife steak knife, car keys, poison for different rodents, clorox, and many different liquid cleaners, many of the tools in dads/moms tool box hammer, screwdriver, chisel, pliars cresent wrench theirs more; if you have a tree in your yard a kid can cut a sml limb and sharpen one end and make a spear to stab someone with, they can all kill. so do we get rid of all this stuff to protect kids or just train and teach and discipline them.

Coming from down under, I find this topic just a little distasteful.

In my country the interpretation of "reasonable force" to defend oneself is such that the use of a fire arm, or any premeditated weapon would result in a conviction. The carriage or keeping of a weapon intended for use against a person implies that one fully intends to cause harm or death to them.

Having discussed antipiracy measures with colleagues we have had to ask ourselves whether in the heat of the moment we would actually be prepared to kill a person in self defence and do the job properly because that is exactly what is needed in order to carry a fire arm safely (witness the unfortunate experience of Sir Peter Blake). None of us could say with confidence that we would.

Biblically however I guess all things are permissable but not all things are beneficial so I guess nobody is under condemnation who causes death or injury in the process of defending themselves or others.

However the aim of the Christian is to be Christ like in all circumstances. Is it Christ like to have the intention of blowing someones head off?

By the way a sword and a gun are very different in combat. A sword may wound and disable a person without killing them. It would be unusual for a succesfull disabling gunshot wound to be survivable.

I see you dont know much about gun shot wounds. their are many many people alive thats been shot by a gun and many many who have died from a knife.

another-Id hate to agree, and disagree with you at the same time. There are avid collectors out there, who purchase guns simply for them to be locked in a display case, never to be fired again. So in those cases, they do lay around and never get used. Most people do use them however, including me-I generally get out and shoot at least once a month. Your assuming that the use is bad-I hunt, and target shoot-neither of which are sinful. None of my guns have ever been fired at-or even aimed in the general direction-of a human being, nor do I intend to ever do so unless my life or that of my families is on the line. Theres nothing tempting about a gun-sure, it can kill people. So can a hammer, or a car. In fact, more people die every year in automobile accidents then gun accidents, yet I don't see anyone calling for the mass banning of cars.

more people die by the hands of doctors than by guns; so should we round up all the doctors.

Thank you all who have stated some good valid points as to position as to their agreement with the use of guns. Still do not like or support them or their use, but can agree to disagree. Respect your views. Just cannot share them.

I have no problem with other people not liking them-if you dont like then I respect that, I only throw a fit if someone tries to take mine.

I keep a first aide kit at home too. Not because I have any intent of cutting off a finger or breaking an arm, but just in case it is needed one day.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
