When I see confusing stuff, I do a translation comparison - like here.

Or I go to this source which explains the words used.

Rom 12:5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

Rom 12:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;

Rom 12:7 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;

Rom 12:8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

I always thought ministering was executing any of the God given gifts and "wait on our ministering" to mean be active in service.Ministry is listed here as a separate thing. What exactly is it?

1Pe 4:10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

1Pe 4:11 If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

The Body of Christ.

I'm using the CJB

Romans 12:6 But we have gifts that differ and which are meant to be used according to the grace that has been given to us. If your gift is prophecy, use it to the extent of your trust; 7 if it is serving, use it to serve; if you are a teacher, use your gift in teaching; 8 if you are a counselor, use your gift to comfort and exhort; if you are someone who gives, do it simply and generously; if you are in a position of leadership, lead with diligence and zeal; if you are one who does acts of mercy, do them cheerfully.

1 Peter 4:10-11

10 As each one has received some spiritual gift, he should use it to serve others, like good managers of God's many-sided grace - 11 if someone speaks, let him speak God's words; if someone serves, let him do so out of strength that God supplies; so that in everything God may be glorified through Yeshua the Messiah - to him be glory and power forever and ever. Amen.

In the translation I'm using, it uses the word serve instead of ministry.

I looked up romans 12:7 in the greek, and the "Let us wait" isn't in the greek, "on" is, it looks like the let us wait was added to complete the thought. I think the thought behind this translation was to "Wait for opportunity" or "Wait on the Spirit"

the word for minister is

diakonia

1) service, ministering, esp. of those who execute the commands of others

2) of those who by the command of God proclaim and promote religion among men

a) of the office of Moses

b) of the office of the apostles and its administration

c) of the office of prophets, evangelists, elders etc.

3) the ministration of those who render to others the offices of Christian affection esp. those who help meet need by either collecting or distributing of charities

4) the office of the deacon in the church

5) the service of those who prepare and present food

As you can see it has a wide rang of meanings but has a depth in "to serve".

I like this version:

Rom 12:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;

Rom 12:7: If your gift is serving, then devote yourself to serving. If it is teaching, devote yourself to teaching.

Rom 12:8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

Seems like meaning got lost and confused in the KJV translation.

I always thought ministering was executing any of the God given gifts and "wait on our ministering" to mean be active in service. Ministry is listed here as a seperate thing. What exactly is it?

God has many gifts you can read about in 1 Corinthians chapters 12--14 The apostle Paul spoke about these gifts in the books of Romans, 2 Corinthians 9:6-15-- it gives further insight into the ministry of "giving" then 1 Peter 4:10--11.

Anytime we allow ourselves to be used of God we become "able ministers" who minister their gifts to the saints

2 Corinthians 3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

Since there are different types of gifts then all gifts do not operate the same way but each is a ministry to the body of Christ.

I believe there was a reason "why" the counsel of the Lord was given both to the "ministers" and to the "teachers" to wait upon their ministering. After a person has been saved and called into the ministry they just can't jump right on out there preaching and teaching the Word of God you can't minister if you don't know the will of Lord yourselves and you can't teach without having the knowledge from the Word to minister to the saints within the body of Christ you can't teach others what you don't know for yourself you not equipped at that time.

Ephesians 4:11-16

When you look at it how can the ministers or the teachers equip the saints when they are not prepared immediately after their conversion?

I believe they should wait on their ministries spending time with the Lord for the Bible is the Will of God. The scripture that you used in 1 Peter 4:10--11 speaks about how the Lord has given gifts and we are to minister those gifts the same one to another according to whatever instructons given to us surrounding those gifts. Then those who are to "speak" forth the Word are to do so according to the oracles of God meaning the things Jesus taught, the things the apostles taught, the principles from the Word, the commandments or laws under the new testament covenant. The ministers who speak the Word they are to be faithful in doing that to the body of Christ and they are to speak forth that Word according to the "ability that God gave them" Leading me into................

1 Timothy 1:3-11.....(3-6)......vs. 7) "Desiring" to be "teachers" of the law;" "understanding neither what they say" nor

"whereof they affirm"......(8-11)

In this passage of scripture it is dealing with false doctrine and it speaks about #1) those who are desiring to be teachers of the law and basically running out to ministering without waiting on their ministry and because of this they go forth #2) not even understanding what it is all about and the things they are saying to the saints they have no understanding of the gospel and because of this #3) the things they speak cannot be verified or affirmed in scripture. The people who do not want to wait on their ministering more than likely will become ministers of false doctrine

not knowing the gospel themselves. Apostle Paul warns us about these type of ministers who run out to the work unprepared and apostle Paul even spoke of those who contended with him concerning doctrine whether it be sound or not.

I think in our time there are many who have put "their cart before their horse" but amid it all they are those ministers who are "waiting"

getting prepaired to speak forth "Christ and him crucified "the truth of the gospel in love.

Jude 10-16

1Pe 4:10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

1Pe 4:11 If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
