Have you heard about what happened at Asbury College in 1970? Asbury is another Christian Liberal Arts College.

No, we haven't had anything like the Great Awakenings, but there's been pockets of stuff around.

Like the Jesus Movement which primarily reached the Hippies.

Which one of these is about Jesus?

Down with authority, We should be able to have free love where everyone fornicates with whoever they want?

And why would someone who believes Jesus not believe Him when He said go to the Father and ask and He will give it to you.

What are you talking about?

The Jesus Movement wasn't the Hippie movement - the Jesus Movement is what brought many hippies to salvation. Evangelism was the key theme of these new Christians. Many of them would simply play guitars and sing on the sidewalks about Jesus as a means to draw people in. Record labels such as Maranatha! (the forefront praise and worship recording company through the 70's and a bit into the 80's) sprang from the Jesus Movement.

A lot of rock n roll songs are talkin' about Jesus without sayin' His name, you just have to know how to hear.

The spirit of God is always moving in someone, why if it happens in a way that recieves attention or notoriety is it a movement,

or some new thing that God is doing.

The spirit of God is always moving in someone, why if it happens in a way that recieves attention or notoriety is it a movement,

or some new thing that God is doing.

Why so much bitterness?

Have you ever heard the testimonies of the people who got saved through this?

One of my pastors got saved and filled with the Spirit within this movement.

Another friend who is now in ministry had an encounter with God - the kind that left him on the floor crying out in repentance.

As for me I'll try the spirits to see if they are of God.

I'm not ready to jump on every wind of doctrine that comes along.

Or you will miss the Lord entirely because He didn't fit into your parameters.

Transforming the youth against their peers and their subculture is no small thing - then or now.

I am not understanding what your post has to do with what we were talking about.

But what you describe sure sounds whacked. Churches telling people they couldn't be saved?

And I don't know what you mean by "your church". What church do you perceive me to be a part of? The tiny congregation I recently started attending, the larger youth group/young adult all-night worship services at another congregation? The fellowship of believers on this Board?

Not all churches that believe in the gift of tongues are "fanatical".

And I've seen "prophets" so puffed up with pride that their behavior got in the way of any message the Lord may have genuinely had to give.

A revival would be neat. But it would appear to me that just as the bible predicted (Once again) there is a great falling away. We have the whole new age religion and the zeitgeist thing going on. Both are quite luciferian in principal. And zeitgeist spits lie after lie in the movie. None the less, millions fell for it.

Glenn Beck is one of the worst examples of Americanized Christianity where Politics are superior to the Bible. A true revival is an evangelical event in which a "sort of preacher" called into ministry by God goes around and tries to encourage souls to improve or harvest souls from a field of unsaved.

If we are interested in a current day revival, and I am, a good read can be found in the book entitled "The Light and the Gory" by Peter Marshall and David Manuel. It covers the early years, spiritually speaking, in America.
