I understand that 1 stadia is equal to 185 meters, which would mean that 12000 should measure about 1380 mile cube.

I hope they have elevators in the buildings, having problems with stairs now a days.

Honestly, neither. The city is literal in fact (it does/will exist) and spiritual in nature. It is just one more name for the Church, all believers in Jesus. The reference to size is not meant to be taken literally. If it were that large, it would fill the whole earth...uh hey wait a minute!

Dan 2:35 Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

The stone that smashed the image was the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God is within the hearts of the people of God and those people are the Church.

Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

The New Jerusalem and the Bride are one and the same. The Church is the Bride of Christ, therefore the Church is also New Jerusalem. A simple math formula: If A=B and B=C, then A=C.

Is the city cube-shaped? Literally, I doubt it. But remember we are dealing with something literal in fact and spiritual in nature. Spiritually, the city is cube shaped, because a cube is a perfect geometrical figure! No matter how you look at it, a cube is perfect. Same height, same width, same depth. The Church is perfect spiritually.

It wouldn't fill the whole Earth. If you take a look at my profile pic, that is the accurate size down to scale of the size of the New Jerusalem compared to the size of Earth. Now if a solid object of that size would "anchor" itself to Earth, it would definitely affect the rotation and axis of Earth, and send the Earth to a different orbit. If the object isn't solid but rather spiritual then that is a different story .

I have heard the argument that it will be either a cube or a pyramid. Is there some other place in scripture besides Revelation 21 where we can find the backing of either? All we are given is the fact that the length, breadth and height are equal.

Here is Revelation 21:14-21

Now the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. And he who talked with me had a gold reed to measure the city, its gates, and its wall. The city is laid out as a square; its length is as great as its breadth. And he measured the city with the reed: twelve thousand furlongs. Its length, breadth, and height are equal. Then he measured its wall: one hundred and forty-four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of an angel. The construction of its wall was of jasper; and the city was pure gold, like clear glass. This is why I have asked for other references in scripture for either side, pyramid or cube. If there is none, then we can only assume to know what it means.
