I will be dressed up in a red suit and carry a pitchfork like a devil--I even have little red horns to put on my head. I think my wife is going to go as a witch or cat woman, but I don't remember what she picked out at the Halloween store. I think my daughter picked out a Britney Spears costume or something like that.

Another good reason to stay home and celebrate reformation day instead .

I'll wear a suit and a tie and go as a decent human being. Actually the last time I wore such attire I was told, "Will the defendant please rise." :emot-hug:

Yes, of course my children will Trick-or-Treat if they want to (they are border-line age), as they always have and yes, of course I will hand out candy. I prefer enjoying all the liberties my God gave me, over legalism, but that is just me.

I was listening to Dr David Jeremiah and heard a commercial for a couple of ladies (I'm sorry, I don't remember their names) who were discussing the origins of Halloween. They said it was created by the catholics to take the focus off of the pagan celebrations of the new harvest on Nov 1st. They called it all Saints Day and dedicated it to all who have been slain in the name of God. They made it on the day before the pagan celebration which made it Oct 31st. These ladies let their kids go out on All Saints day but they have to dress up as someone biblical and must tell everyone that asks about their costume the story of that person. What a great missionary tool. The ladies also hand out a scripture with the candy. Not a bad idea to me.

I really can't stand Halloween . We do not celebrate it period . It's a day to give homage to the pagan God Samhain . Lord of death . I am sure there are alot of other valid reasons to not celebate it , but I for one will not give any kind of homage to any God but the living God . Theres alot of good info here on worthy news at http://www.worthynews.com/halloween.html and at www.exposingsatanism.org . This is one topic that needs to addressed for more reasons than one . Please read the info and pray about it . Thank you all and have a blessed day in Christ .

That's just the thing, though, it's what you make of it. When I dress my children up and go out with them and greet neighbors and talk to people (yes, even use that time to witness) and tell people "God bless you", I am not paying homage to anyone but the one true Living God. We are not "celebrating" anything except getting to know our neighbors. In a different thread earlier this month, Artsylady made a very good point. Christians who pass out candy or let their children get candy are no closer to "pagan" gods than non-christians who give christmas presents and sing songs about santa are to Jesus.

I posted this in another thread but it still seems to pertain. In that thread, it was discussing a school in Washington choosing, now, not to let the school celebrate Halloween due to it being offensive to Wiccan witches.

The part that I think is getting lost are the childrens' feelings. This is a big deal. Halloween, no matter the origins, is now just a night where the whole country plays make believe and share treats with each other. I don't prefer, and probably wouldn't encourage my children to dress like the more scarier creatures, but I remember when I was young, loving that my whole family, (more than 40 people) would come over, and even the adults played dress up, we gave candy to other kids, we went around the neighborhood gettting candy, and then came home to see the neat stuff we got. At school, it was a day to be anticipated. We got to celebrate imagination and creativity. NOT ONE CHILD ever, I am guessing, thought, well now I will follow Satan. Or later in life thought, well that holiday lead to my destruction.

I think just like the parent who sanitizes everything their child touches, makes them more suceptible to getting ill in the real world where they can't sanitize, THIS IS THE SAME, it is not about whatever myth this holiday originated, it is about giving a day to our kids where we join in and celebrate creativity and sharing with the neighborhood.

Why does something so superficial, and supported mostly by the retail industry have to be classified so harshly? Sometimes I think we as Christians can get a little too high and sensitive on our soap boxes.

So lets step down, and have some fun WITH our kids. It is important to them, so it should be important to us!

I have 3 little kids , all under 10 years old . We used to take them trick-or-treating . And now that we don't , they don't miss it a bit . We always do fun stuff in Autumn anyway . Like rolling in leaves , baking apple pies, making leaf molds and collecting all sorts of seeds . This is just as fun and doesn't rot their teeth . This is one thing that people will always dissagree about , let it up to your own personal convictions . As far as this night being just for kids , tell that to my ADULT neighbors , with no kids lol .

I used to celebrate halloween. And as a child that did and now doesn't and is old enough to understand why, I believe I have a testimony here.

I used to go trick-or-treating with my friends, my parents escourted us around our very nice neighborhood. Honestly, I have nothing but fond memories of those times. But my father (being the head of our household) felt a conviction in the Spirit about Halloween. He began to research it's origin, it's cover-up by the Church in the Middle Ages, and it's conotations today. We no longer celebrated Halloween. My parents said to me and my brother, "if it's about the candy, we'll buy you candy, but we're not going to celebrate this holiday in our home anymore."

I was only about 7, so I just accepted it. But now that I'm older I have done some research on that topic and have found it more disturbing that I had first imagined. Not only were the origins of Halloween extremely dark, Satanic and bloodthirsty, but many of the traditions of occultic and satanic, and wiccan groups still practice these traditions on Halloween night.

Why take part in something so blatantly evil. I can literally feel it in the air on the night of Halloween. I urge you to go and do your own research on historical facts about the holiday and then bring it before the Lord.

My family do not give praise to satan. We do not celebrate evil!

quote=IreneM,Oct 26 2004, 06:51 PM]

How many of you plan to let your kids go trick or treating or plan to leave light on and allow kids to knockon your door ????

Alot of Christians see nothing wrong with kids trick or treating

so just wanted to know how you feel

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
