What do you think? Partial agreement, partial disagreement. The city of Laodicea (sp?) was in a place below where two rivers converged. One river came form the mountains and was cold and refreshing to drink. The other river came from hot springs, where there were hot water baths for healing. Thus, the Laodiceans had to deal with the mixture of the two waters, which was indeed lukewarm. Thus, Jesus was giving them an analogy that related to their situation. Consider this: why would Jesus rather us be cold if cold means being completely separate from Him? But what if both "hot" and "cold" referred to different positive traits (the way both types of water had positive traits - just with different functions)? Amen! Water also translates to life. Cold cool water was refreshing and it was moving which is why it was cool. Hot water had healing properties, due to the hot springs and minerals in it. The Pharisees were never followers of Christ, needing to return to their first love. They were simply religious leaders, who did everything they did for show, and were hypocrites. They also rejected the only means of salvation, Jesus Christ, and did what they could to keep others from following Christ. The lukewarm believers seem to be people who still believed in Jesus, but had grown complacent. They certainly don't appear to be against Jesus as the Pharisees were? What they are looking for, they do not realize. Sometimes I wonder if they are truly Christians as their actions are so not... What do you do when you come across someone like that? Pray for them and be an example yourself. Sometimes we can dig up true wheat thinking they are tares. Not even angels are qualified to do this.
