Mosques throughout Europe have had an increase in attacks

Man charged over Van Gogh death

Several Dutch mosques have been attacked by arsonists as tension in the Netherlands grew after the murder of an outspoken filmmaker.

The ANP news agency reported on Sunday that mosques in the city of Rotterdam and the towns of Breda and Huizen were attacked, although not badly damaged, while pamphlets insulting to Islam were plastered on another mosque in Rotterdam.

In Amsterdam, where film director Theo van Gogh was stabbed and shot on Tuesday, a centre for immigrants was daubed with red paint. A Dutch-Moroccan man was charged with Van Gogh's murder on Friday.

In the town of Huizen near Amsterdam, ANP said police had detained three people suspected of trying to start a fire at a mosque early on Saturday. Police said they were caught in the act by members of the mosque.

In the southern town of Breda, unknown suspects lit a fire at a mosque in the early hours of Sunday, but the fire had already been extinguished by the time police arrived, ANP said.

Suspected arsonist detained

Tension has been on the rise since

the murder of Theo van Gogh

Police detained a 24-year-old man on suspicion of setting a fire at a mosque in Rotterdam on Sunday morning. Only the door was damaged. Insulting pamphlets with pictures of pigs heads were plastered on another mosque in Rotterdam.

Early on Friday, several fires broke out at a new mosque belonging to a Moroccan religious association in the central town of Utrecht. Police said they were investigating arson.

Far-right protesters have marched in Amsterdam and Rotterdam to express their anger at Van Gogh's killing, while the government has urged calm amid fears of retaliation in a country where hostility towards foreigners is on the rise.

The Netherlands is home to almost a million Muslims or almost 6% of its population of 16 million. The majority of Muslims are from Turkey and Morocco.

A poll by RTL Nieuws showed 47% said they felt less tolerant of Muslims since the killing of Van Gogh, while another survey showed support for a populist who wants to stop immigration from Turkey and Morocco rising to 12%.

Do you support fascist bomb attacks on schools and places of worship? Don't forget that the people responsible for these attacks are the heirs of those Dutch citizens who collaborated with the Nazi regime during the war that deported half of the Jewish population of Holland to the camps.

I support the right for all people to worship and celebrate their faith peacefully. As to militant Islamist group, and individuals such as the assassin of Theo Van Gogh, as a Quaker I see little real difference between them and those who bombed this school , or those who kill and murder using the name of Christ. I find them equally repugnant and misguided.

You mean like the school in Russia where 9 year old school children were shot in the back in the name of Islam. Or the recent bombings of Christian Churches in Bagdad in the name of...you guessed it Islam. Hmmmmm Nope I can't day I support that.

no amor none of us here support attacks on our children in our schools. But evidently terrorists do carry out attacks in schools. The point here that people are making is that we don't want terrorists here. Or any group that supports terrorism to extend its ideals. We want peace and safety. Islam preaches to kill the infidels otherwise known as anyone who isn't muslim. How can you support that?

Really we are not much different you being Quaker and I mennonite. I am able to see a broader picture because I was not always a mennonite and have been in the world a while. While I do not condone violence I do understand those who do not have the same views of my religion. Personally I turned from violence because of personal convictions but there are those in the world who believe in the adage "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" Then you have the terrorists who say anyone who isn't one of them don't deserve to die and hide behind children and women and send them to do their dirty work. See many types in this world my friend.

Amor,

You and I have taken some slams at each other here but on this post I will refrain from that. Know this, I don't like war. I have 3 sons. One in the reserves. I wish war was not a part of the fallen world experience because it is the most painful part. When I grew up we did "duck and cover" drills in school in case of a nuclear attack. For 40+ years, we here in America faced the possibilty of complete annihilation. Looking back, I can see one thing we had working in our and the former USSR's favor. It was called MAD(mutual assured destuction). Nukes were used as a detourant to war. We had an enemy that knew as well as we did what the outcome of such an exchange would be. Neither of us were stupid enough to use these weapons. It was about ideaology and real estate. Nor we or the Soviets followed a belief system that encouraged martyrdom as a means to secure a place in heaven. Im not even suggesting that all Muslims subscribe to that line of thinking. Most of them probably don't but we seem to have a problem weeding out the ones that don't from the ones that do. It would help if the moderate voices in that belief system were a bit louder. Here is reality: the ability and knowledge to constuct such devices still exists. It is absolutly nesessery to prevent radical factions of Islam from getting their hands on this type of capability. Many of us see this as a formula for doomsday and I believe our fears are well founded. We could have just left things as they were and hoped for the best. Most of us view that as a pipe dream. The greater war on terrorism is not just about bombing and occupation. The ultimate hope is to change the face of that region so that people see life as something more than just a chance to die for Allah. The only possible way of doing that is to root out the radicals that wish to maintain this deadly status quo. Its unfortunate and sad but military action is required to do this. While democracy has its warts, it still seems to be a better way to prevent tyranny and dictatorships. Free market economy, self determination, basic human rights, having a voice in your government, education with a possibility to improve your current situation and a right to choose your belief system is worth trying to implement in this troubled region. The basic idea is to create a situation that gives people something to live for. I will admitt that at time it seems a lofty goal. However, it, in many people's minds is the best and only option if we are to preserve civilization. I pray that this war will be over soon with as little casualties as possible. I long for the day when Christ returns and war will be no more. Until that day, we have to do the best we can and try to make the right choices in a fallen world.

Regards

Dan

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
