hi GE.

this is from my KJV:

Isaiah, son of Amoz, seems to have come from a well-to-do and respected Jerusalemite family, for not only is his father's name recorded, but he also enjoyed intimate relations with the royal family and the highest officials of the government.

Although he may have begun his prophetic ministry in the latter end of Uzziah's reign, he records the year of Uzziah's death (probably 740 b.c.) as the time when he received a special anointing and commision from God in the temple (ch. 6).

He was bidden to preach boldly and uncompromisingly a message of warning and denunciation against his people for their ungodliness of life and idolatry of worship, and to summon the nation to thoroughgoing repentance and reformation.

He was hated and opposed by idolatrous King Ahaz, favored and respected by King Hezekiah (716-698 b.c.) - who nevertheless disregarded his warnings against alliance with Egypt - and he was probably martyred by Hezekiah's depraved and brutal son, King Manasseh, somewhere around 680 b.c.

I have to believe that Isaiah penned the words given by God. There seems to be no evidence otherwise. Verbal plenery inspiration, or something of the sort. John quotes several passages from Isaiah, stating that Isaiah spoke the words, in Jn 38-41.

Have you ever thought about this? Who wrote the book of Isaiah?

I tend to take the Commonality View which states that the book was written by the prophet Isaiah.

A. Cyrus Date View: The first half (Is. 1-39) of the book stresses sin and punishment while the second half (40-66) stresses the promises of restoration. The first half focuses on the Assyrian threat while the second half focuses on the Babylonian conquest. This view focuses on the fact that Cyrus of Persia is mentioned by name in Isaiah 44:28 and 45:1 in allowing the Jews to return home in 539 B.C.

B. Commonality View: Several experts argue that Assyria and Babylon are mentioned in both halves of the book. They note that Jerusalem is intact and yet threatened in both chapters 1-39 and 40-66. Sin, punishment, and restoration are common prophetic themes so the presence of these ideas in any part of the book would not be unusual. This view as I understand it sees Isaiah as the sole writer of the Book of Isaiah.

C. Unity View: More recently some scholars have noted that in many ways the book operates with unity. They disagree whether this unity from being written by one or author many persons supplementing the work of Isaiah. Some say as I understand it who support tthis view there are two authors and others three authors.

Isaiah's fulfilled prophecies is the criteria that this was an inspired messenger of God. This was no ordinary author.

That's the way I see it.

Thank you

Beware of higher criticism doctrines that have infiltrated the seminaries... teaching (based on a disbelief in supernaturalism) that Isaiah was written by two or even three descendent disciples of the "school of Isaiah" over several hundred years. Jesus in John 12:38-39 quotes from two sides of the higher criticism rift between alleged authors and attributes both to the same Isaiah. Which IMHO kills higher criticism doctrine of deutero and trito Isaiah. Remember too that it's not about the man / prophet / but God and the message of God.

To borrow from my own signature:

The Bible is its own best commentary.
Prophecy is the word of God

which sometimes speaks of future... sometimes of the present... sometimes of the past.
A prophet is the tool God uses.
It's not about the prophet, but about the God who uses the prophet to speak his word...

...even reading from the Bible and teaching / expounding / exposition the prophecy we have right under our very noses.

Which thing I also did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against them. And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto strange cities.

Whereupon as I went to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests, At midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me.

And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.

But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee; Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
