The courts and attorney general have ordered detroit to rescind its filing for bankruptcy. Cant do anything to affect pensions.

I guess they figure a default is better than a bankruptcy for some reason which I cannot fathom.

This is a state level court, the city went to a Fed court for to file bankruptcy, they must have anticipated this happening.

Anyone here that has been to Detroit in the last few years knows the truth.  They shouldn't just file bankruptcy; they should fold that city up and toss into one of the Great Lakes.  There is nothing left there to salvage.

No, they actually want the Federal Government to bail out Detroit. The Judge, a Leftist Political Appointee, said as much.

“It’s also not honoring the (United States) president, who took (Detroit’s autoicon1.png companies) out of bankruptcy.”

From The Detroit News: http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20130719/METRO01/307190099#ixzz2ZXrW1T00

If the Federal Government steps in and bails out this City the U.S. is toast because it will set a trend for every other poorly administrated city that is on the verg of Bankruptcy to ask for the same thing. That will be the end of the Republic.

I've actually thought about this problem for some time.

Why not offer all the vacant buildings to those who want to invest? Sell them for a dollar a piece with the proviso that you must live in them for 10 years. They must be maintained and the first 5 years would be tax exempt followed by another 5 years of half the current tax rate. The revenue brought in through the regeneration would float all boats.

Like the old West land grabs. Make it a lottery system and then first come first served.

matt, I do believe I watched a documentary a while back, and theyve tried that if I do recall. You can actually go into detroit and buy buildings for a dollar, and theyre still not selling.

Can't say as I blame anyone. Detroit has been run into the ground by Leftist politicians for close to a century now.

Problem is, what business would move in there for what reason?

And how can these buildings be redeemed?
