I doubt I will do anything, but what do you all think?

Sounds like to me JTC that the cashier may be stealing? If this employee is scamming you then they're possibly scamming other customers as well.

Personally, I would at the very least tell the owner/manager.

I worked as a manager for a movie theater. One of the biggest causes of shrinkage was stealing from employees.

Tax evasion is also a serious crime as I understand it. Not sure about that one.

God bless,

GE

On a side note I think quitting smoking is a great idea to save money. Assuming $31.50 spent a week this habit costs you $1,638.00 on average each year.

Or also have you tried the patch?

I would take the problem to the store manager.  Have the cost all tallied up on a piece of paper plus what you buy, just like you explained here in your OP,  and ask the manager why the difference in price.  I hope you saved your receipts, because if it turns out the manager tells you you are right, then the store owes you a refund.

Thank you to all who side stepped the issues, and didn't answer the question. That's what I get for being honest with you all.  Suppose it was notebooks and the same thing was going on. I wonder what you all would have said then?

What are you doing with all that paper? You must do a lot of writing.

Not that I have to answer this, but I've been trying very hard to give this nicotine addiction up.

Yeah, I get tired of people telling me I should quit smoking. I've been smoking for over 40 years. I'm well aware of the hazards. I smoke because I want too, plain and simple.

As for going to another store, there really isn't another store I know of that sells these brand cigars, this cheaply.

Which is cheaper?

Losing a buck or two every week to bogus taxes or finding another outlet that offers your brand of tobacco?

I asked for advice here and received condemnation. So if any of you has wisdom, answer as if it was something other than cigars. Since I'm sure none of you do anything sinful anymore.

I don't believe anyone here is condemning you. Everyone was pretty much in agreement. Change retailers.

Speaking for myself, I wouldn't give those people another dime of my money. I would go in and have a talk with the owner and tell him what's been happening and then I would tell him I wasn't coming back to his store. (you might get some free cigars   :taped: )

You mentioned you only go to this store at night when the owner isn't there. Is there a reason you can't go during the day?

I kind of want to try and call the owner and tell him. Although that may do no good. Or I suppose I could rat him out to the government.

If I did 1 of those things is that taking revenge?

I don't believe that reporting a crime can be considered "taking revenge".

But, if you're reporting them in hopes of people losing their jobs, that could be seen as payback. What are your motives for turning them in to the IRS?

Thank you for better answers. I don't see it as revenge because I don't want anyone getting in trouble, such as being fired. I just want the 6th cigar free, as the sign says. But I don't plan on doing anything.

I have tried the patch before with fairly good results. I intend to use it again as soon as the weather cools off. Some people sweat like crazy while others barely sweat at all. I'm in the 1st group. I found in the past that the patch falls off me when I sweat. So pretty soon I should be able to use it, if I can afford it. I know in the long run the patch will be much cheaper than the cigars. It's just not easy to quit nicotine. And there's 2 parts to the addiction. One is the craving for the nicotine, and the patch helps that. The other is the sensation of the smoke going down into the lungs. And that I have to beat in my mind.

Thank you again.

Hi Folks,

I want some opinions on this. This issue has been going on over a month now. I realize this involves something that is a sin, but there's other issues.

I still smoke tobacco, and that's the sin. I smoke cigars. I live in NY state where the sales tax is 8.75%.

True cigar shops include all taxes in the price of the Cigar. But convenience stores do not. And most people know, that small privately owned stores never pay all the sales tax they collect. I know this for a fact because I once had a friend who is a CPA, and he told me this.

Some convenience stores that sell good cigars have a sign in the window that says, but 5 get 1 free. The store I'm talking about is open 24 hours and I go there at night when the owner isn't there. The people who work in there are probably Mid Eastern.

So I buy 4 cigars at $5.99 each, and 1 at $4.99 which equals $27.95. Add tax and I get  $30.40. I am then allowed a free cigar so I take a $3.99 one as the free one. But when they ring it up, the total is $32.50. Sometimes it's $31.50. I tell the clerk this doesn't make sense, and they say I still have to pay tax on the free one. So sales tax on $3.99 = 35 cents. So the grand total should be $30.75. But it never is. I go in there once a week and but the cigars which last all week.

But I'm getting sick of this. I say they are not just being dishonest, and in Proverbs we read the Lord hates dishonest scales.  But they are breaking the NY State tax laws.

I kind of want to try and call the owner and tell him. Although that may do no good. Or I suppose I could rat him out to the government.

If I did 1 of those things is that taking revenge?

Or do I just keep trying to forgive them because where they come from, dishonesty is probably the name of the game.

I doubt I will do anything, but what do you all think?

I'd have to see your receipt, but the problem might be in the programing of the cash register.

If the employees are being dishonest, the owner needs to know.  If it effects the tax they collect it could get the owner in trouble.

I'd go by when the owner was there and see if it is the same

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
