Another thing I noticed was the absence of Christ in this conversation. All the advice in the world isn't worth squat if Christ isn't at the center of it.

 

Lust and temptation begin in the heart, which makes it a spiritual matter. We can't overcome the spiritual by physical means. Unless God is a part of the conversation, we're just talking into the wind.

I disagree that the author is not giving godly counsel.

 

 

Consider these words:

 

 Humans objectify the things they love in effort to control them.  If you truly love a person, do not reduce them to an object.

Unfortunately, much of how the sexes interact with each is rooted in fear.  Fear of rejection, fear of abuse, fear of being out of control.  In some ways, the church has added to this.  We fear each other because we have been taught the other is dangerous. ... So don’t contribute to the fear that exists between men and women.

Because in the end, they want to be with you.  Without fear of being judged, or shamed, or condemned, or objectified, or being treated as other.  And that’s not just what women want.  That’s what people want.

 

 

Do you see anything unBiblical in this? Was not the original sin about control? ("You shall be as God.") Does not the Bible speak about loving your neighbor?

 

Are we not to overcome fear? (How can we overcome if we don't acknowledge what we are afraid of?)

 

And doing unto others as you would have them do to you, is this not in the Scripture?

Insecurity helps to create a desire to control.  I will agree that fear is a factor.  As a woman, and having grown up a little differently I now suspect, I have found it actually odd the way some

men desire to control their wives in various ways.  Equally unfortunate, at least to me, is the way some women think they have to behave as someone other than who they are, in order to meet

the controller's expectations.  

 

If a person is controlled they live in fear and the resentment grows daily.

 

Instruction is taught in scripture in Proverbs especially and then the NT...so really, there is nothing startling about the article...in fact, the Bible supports that very instruction.  We live in a

different time...but the principal is the same.

I agree that men should not treat and view women as objects of lust, but be treated based upon the content of their character, based upon who they are. I also think topics like this are scapegoat topics for women. I see the message to women is, dress how you want, do what you want,  Walk around naked if you like, it's all the man's problem if he looks at you in lust. It's all the man's responsibility.  As a woman you bear no responsibility at all.

The issue insofar as I see it is that you're a man, and you're responsible for your own sin. You can't control the way that others dress so obsessing about that isn't going to help you or minimize your own responsibility in the world. Nothing in that means that women aren't responsible for*their own* sin also, but it makes more sense to me to focus on what you can and can't actually control.
