On the obesity thread, since closed, among all the interesting posts in it was a brief mention of nutrition among most folks today.

What do you personally do to have nutritious foods?

What do you know about nutrition to begin with?

Can we help others to get nutritious foods? Especially those on low incomes who struggle to eat healthy? How can we do that?

I can't answer in an American context because I am not sure of the price of food there. But here, the cost of a hamburger and fries could buy you quite a lot of fruit and veg like a bunch of bananas, a few mangoes, tomatoes, etc.

I am blessed to have a wife who loves to use fresh ingredients when she cooks. Tonight was tofu with pork, onions, soy sauce, etc, fried rice and freshly squeezed orange juice. (can get two pockets of oranges, about 40 oranges for less than the price of a burger and fries here).

The fact that I have just been diagnosed with borderline high blood sugar levels that could lead to type 2 diabetes is no fault of hers. Until a few days ago (before the wake up call), I was a glutton for sweets, chocolate (whole slab at a time). I am paying the price for overindulging, and the fault is all mine. I am not overweight, and exercise in my work (could do more though), her blood sugar is a perfect 5.4, mine was a 7.5 today...

All down to me, and now I need to take action. I have started with prayer, and will change my diet away from sugar, soda (I already drink a lot of water) and the bad carbo's, and deal with it.

We could get back to the system of clean and unclean foods

And do it under clean (nutritious) and unclean (non nutritious) foods

Something like

Twinkie (unclean) and broccoli (clean)

Or

Doughnut (processed) and apple (unprocessed)

I know a little about nutrition, but then again I don't (not really) because I know how to get the effects of (by appearance only) a certain look (which is generally accepted as such) but could very well lack in substance (according to our national standards).

Which didn't exist in Jesus day anyway. They are seen picking food out in the field (when hungry) fishing (but without all that nuclear waste in the sea). Eating a honeycomb and basically bread from what I can tell.

Although John the Baptist lived off of locusts and honey (as his main food group)

Even myself (now) I pretty much don't eat all day, but once I feel hunger pains (even though I have food in my refrigerator) the first thing I grab typically is a roll (and I do add butter to it). And eating (pretty much) through the days (but more specifically) during the week without thinking too much about it.

Just to ward off a hunger pain, if one shows up.

My husband will not eat vegetables, or healthy (he just will not). He eats for an outward effect (not inward effect) and I so cant afford what he demands I buy at the grocery store and what is actually far better for you (to pick from). So I I go with his list and I will often grab a roll or a sandwich (whichever) if I cant eat what he is eating. For example.

Like this evening, yesterday he says to me, pull out bacon (I have this huge craving for bacon) right? I said for what? He said I want bacon sandwiches (he eats weird things). so I did, and he says, I want two sandwiches, think you can make two sandwiches out of "just that"?

I said what do you mean, "just that"? Its a POUND of bacon you want two half pound sandwiches??

"Yeah" (he says).

So I will be fending for myself, or eating rolls this evening because apparently the 1 lb package of bacon is cutting it far too thin for him.

I have a weird situation here LOL Because we have food, and can afford food, but his choices are not mine

You know that tofu thing is almost heretical among many on this forum lol.

I like tofu myself though. They tease me about it in chat at times lol.

I used to dislike it terribly until South showed me what can be done with it. It takes the flavor of whatever you are cooking, especially if you quick fry it to firm up the outside of the small pieces she blocks it into. It's also very good for you I believe.

And until all the tofu unbelievers can show me the scripture that says "Thou shall not eat tofu", I will continue  :cool2:

Stevia is supposed to lower blood sugar according to various studies. The american diabetic association or whatever the name is does not approve of it, perhaps because of that reason (affect regulation of blood sugar otherwise controlled by meds).

I have taken soft tofu cut into cubes and put it in sukiyaki. Ive had friends who couldnt taste the difference between that and chicken lol.

most of the big organizations and government do not approve anything natural (God made ) for healing the body.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
