Wow you guys in the usa are really generous in the tips you give...here in nz it is not customary to tip at all.

Interesting WIP. Do the waiters and waitresses get a regular hourly or salaried wage?

another thing you can do that is a lot of fun is to be ordering food or paying out and reach over and pick up someone's bill and pay it....  I've seen police officers tear up from that.   or a young family ordering at McDonald's or such and just reach over and swipe your credit card at their register....  then just look forward like nothing happened...  that can get you a hug.....

one night at work i was in an area where homeless people hang out and a couple with two young kids were obviously hungry, but were not asking for people to help.  i offered to buy them breakfast down the street a ways, and we picked up several others on the way and i got to know some really nice folks that morning that were just in a bad situation.....  yeah, it did cost a bit, but I'm not sure which of us benefited the most from it.  it changed my entire view of homeless people

Those are great ideas brother! Wow. What an opportunity to share the Gospel.

This is challenging to me. Another thing you can do is randomly pay for someone's groceries while at the store. Particularly when they get to the line and don't have enough to buy what they were hoping to buy.

I give tips scaled based on the service I get. It's the same in any free market exchange, why reward someone not doing a very good job? I don't see how giving someone who is doing a bad job a 30% tip is more Christian or not. There are exceptions such as provided in the story above. All that being said, I try to err on the generous side- but I always have as a general rule.

I always tip. The only thing I expect a waitress to do is take my order and bring it when it's ready.

Yes they are paid an hourly wage....usually $15.00 nz  dollars.  The pizza delivery man sometimes gets a tip but they certainly don't expect it...never tip your hairstylist..

Blessings to all,

My grandfather was a Master Chef & much of my family had restuarants ,so this is a ve4ry familiar subject......Gratuities are simply that, the way in which one shows their appreciation for the good service they received(although most of our employees prefer to give the definition for TIPS as "to insure proper service"-lol)......In the U.S. wait staff are paid below minimum wage (which is currently $7.25)as low as $2.25 per hour, giving a 10% tip is really an insult keeping this in mind. Many people do not realize that that waiter or waitress is being taxed on estimated gratuities & are supposed to report there gratuities when they file their tax returns..."if" the person filing does not report their "tip"...the IRS will estimate, require alot of documentation and base 15% as thier estimation......Many restuarants that have parties of 6 or more automatically include a service "charge" to the bill to ensure their staff receives gratuities & that amount is usually 18%(although it is up to the restuarant owner)but I have never seen lower

So,even though there is no set rate for"tipping" and it is not mandatory ,in the U.S.A. according to '"Hints from Heloise" & other etiquite experts the expected proper standard is from 15%-25%.....the usual is 18%....I do hope this has been useful information,as for myself, having worked the "back of the house",I leave 20%-25%...God bless servers,it's very hard work and people can be extremely demanding and not very appreciative....as far as leaving a Bible, that's very nice as long as there are some greenbacks underneath that treasure!

                                                                                                                                With love,in Christ-Kwik

All I can say is that the non-Christians are watching you. I use to work in a restaurant. On Sunday after church would let out we would be flooded by church people. Some of these church people were incredibly rude. It was talked about among the working staff that the church people that come in on Sundays were the most rudest and hurtful. Now that may or may not have been so that they were the worst of the worst and the rudest of the rudest.  But because they were coming from church, people expected them to behave kindly. And if they did not, it was talked about. So the point I am making here is that as Christians, the world is watching you. Watching how you will behave and how you treat others. If you are holding a Bible study at a restaurant, (which by the way people did do at the one I worked at) and you run the restaurant staff around asking for coffee refills, you better leave a nice tip and behave yourself. Because you are being watched.

I agree. My cousin worked in the food industry. If we ever eat out on Sundays I make it a point to give good tips.

The world is indeed watching us.

Ah I see... As kwikphilly has said here in the U.S. waiters are paid about $3.00 an hour to cover taxes. Minimum wage is $7.50 I believe. The only way watiers or waitresses (commnoly called a server) make any real income is with what customers tip in most cases.

The incentive there is for servers to offer drinks, appitizers, dessert, etc. to increase the amount of the bill. The idea is that the resteraunt makes more money and the server does as well.

I have worked back of the house myself...LOL

Short order cook, waitress.

I have a heart for waitress's i always over tip...because I know exactly how hard they work and what they get paid..if it's NOT a Chain Restaurant, the get very very little, at one point i worked for $1.00 an hour +Tip's.....

There's only one time that i didn't leave a Tip....

Our Waitress was fallin all over my hubby.....but being very rude to me....Now fallin all over my hubby wasn't the part that bothered me...i understand how the game is played....be extra nice=better Tip....

but this particular waitress went out of her way to be rude to me.....

so when i told my hubby no tip...his eyes bugged out...lol because he know's i always over tip....later outside the restaurant he asked me why..so i explained, she had picked him as the mark, that's fine.. she picked wrong.....lol

and her additude towards me was wayyy outta line.

we've been known to order the "Breakfast Special...About $3.00 a piece....total bill about $8.00, we leave $5.00 or more depending on our waitress....they gotta make a living too...

and sometimes i put the tip right in their hand...not because i want to be thanked, but because some waitress's will steal another waitress's tips,so while i eat i watch ,if i see this is a possibility,i will hunt down our waitress and hand the tip to her.

Two of my three daughters were servers. In the restaurants they worked at, the other servers would try to pick out the Christians and purposely try to not have them sit in their section. The reason was that Christians were notoriously terrible tippers. Sometimes they would leave $5 and a tract for a $75 meal. So, the moral of this account is if you don't want to tip correctly please don't identify yourself as a Christian--don't leave a tract and don't pray for your meal!!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
