My son (eighth grade) came home from school today asking me to save those "missing child" postcards that come in the mail. It seems they are starting a new book in reading class about a psychic girl who can find missing people and they will get extra credit for bringing in those postcards.

My first instinct is to request a different book for my son. "Psychic" = "divination" which, of course, is forbidden by God. I realize He says not to practice it, but should we be concerned with reading a book about it "for fun"? Or should we avoid all divination, even just reading a book about it?

Greetings WIP,

Kinda hard to be a "little bit" pregnant.

The secular schools are in the process of cramming every kind of evil down our children's throat. There appears to be only two alternatives, either home school or a good Christian school. God will surely make a way for you if you honor Him.

Blessings,

Dad Ernie

WIP-

A couple of years ago my daughter's teacher decided to read Harry Potter to the class every day. I told her nicely that I don't allow my daughter to read Harry Potter or see the movie and I didn't wish for her to be exposed to it.

She said fine, put my daughter out in the hall everyday while she read it.

Not too many days of that and she decided to stop reading it.

I would state my beliefs, nicely to the teacher and let her roll her eyes and then just stick to it. You are not making too much of it. The kids are going to be involved in these situations for life, just make sure they understand what the truth is and why we disagree with some things.

Blessings

Meh. Lots of "good Christian schools" tend to be just as bad as public schools, in my experience. As for homeschooling... It's good and all, but... I mean, I love being homeschooled (I'm in 11th grade, and have been homeschooled my whole life). If you're going to homeschool your kids though, don't pretend like the world doesn't exist, like there's nothing different between the homeschooled Christian environment and the world. Doing so is to cripple the child, and put them through a serious cultural shock when they move out. Which is not cool.

Umm. As to your question, Work in Progress... Mm. My only question is this. Since witchcraft and magic is a no no, as God says, is reading Lord of the Rings bad? You know, Lord of the Rings does have magic and witchcraft in it. I mean, let's face it, Gandalf IS a wizard.

What exactly is my point here? I dunno. But it seems hypocritical to me to say that you can read a book with magic and witchcraft in it (despite the fact that it's wrong), and that you can't read a book with divination in it because divination is wrong.

My advice: Pray about it. Talk to God about it, and listen for His response.

Once again we see how important active Christianity is. The schools belong to the people. We need to pray, and get involved via school board meetings etc. or the communists will continue to control.

LOL, D.E! True!

The secular schools are in the process of cramming every kind of evil down our children's throat. There appears to be only two alternatives, either home school or a good Christian school. God will surely make a way for you if you honor Him.

I take that to mean, you would refuse the book? :emot-questioned:

You are not making too much of it.

Thanks, Wordsower. That was my fear. And, don't worry - I'm used to the teachers rolling their eyes at me! LOL

Mildinsanity, thank you for your response. I can't answer your question about 'Lord of The Rings' because I don't know much about it, am not interested in it, so didn't get into the controversy. But you raise the question that I have - is only reading about it forbidden, or is it no big deal as long as we know (and he does) that it's bunk? By reading the book, my son is not going against God and practicing divination, but I wonder if we should even be reading about stuff that God says is evil.

Once again we see how important active Christianity is. The schools belong to the people. We need to pray, and get involved via school board meetings etc. or the communists will continue to control.

Another one I'll take to mean that you think I should request another book. :24:

It seems to me that a young person of that age is extreamly impressionable and I would not be prone to like them involved in that subject.

I am not sure you can go through school (unless home school) without being exposed to this subject. You really do need to go to the teacher and discuss it with her/him and let them know your feelings. It may help or it might not, but sometimes the teachers have a different view than is aparent from outside theclassroom. You really need to know your teacher's reasons for choosing this book.

At best they will decide not to read it, and if not it might be a good time to read it yourself and cover the information with your son as a lesson of worldly things he will have to deal with over his life time. So even if it is not stopped you can use it to teach him how to deal with this kind of thing.

Thanks, other one, I really appreciate your thoughts. His teachers all know my stand on things, as I attend the open houses and conferences and such. I went over the reading material for this class at open house, but this one wasn't listed. At that time, there were several books listed and shown, and I flipped through them and told the teacher that he was not to read any books or have assignments on any books that were more than a "G" rating, and the same goes for movies shown, without my first reviewing the material. I made it clear that, at his age, I still guard his mind and have certain responsibilities when it comes to that. And that it would be kinda stupid for him to be absorbing things in class that I don't allow at home.

My son is well aware of psychics, mediums and such, as I don't believe in keeping my children ignorant. He realizes that those things are of satan, but I see no reason why he should be forced to read a book about it which, in effect, encourages and glorifies it, when it is something that God forbids.

I will send a note tomorrow that I am requesting another book for the credit. I doubt I will get much flack, as they are familiar with me and my refusal to put up with their junk.

I just wanted to make sure that this was a battle I should choose, or if it was really no big deal. I appreciate all the thoughts. :emot-questioned:

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
