Scripture says......  Proverbs 1:7 - The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.  Proverbs 3:7 - Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.  Proverbs 9:10 - The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.  Proverbs 14:16 - A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.  Job 28:28 - And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.  No it is not a sin to obey God out of fear I believe it's taught in scripture.

Here is my same answer to you.  If you obey God out of fear, you will never be free.  Mostly we obey God out of fear because we are fearful of the things we are doing that displease Him.  Stop doing those things and the fear goes, and we begin to obey out of Love, and a closer relationship with Him.  You CANNOT have a close relationship with something you fear.  That's called abuse. (like a battered wife for instance),  You can only have a close relationship with that which you Love.  God is not into abuse. Just Love Him.  He already Loves you. He always has. Â A good understand have they that keep His commandments. Â Sometimes it is the fear of God's chastening that keeps me from disobeying. Â But usually it is because I don't want to lose the close fellowship I have with Him. Â The warmth of His friendship means so much to me, and the reassurance that He is guiding my steps. Â When I obey His commandments and His voice I also gain understanding of His Word, and it becomes a part of my life. Â Then God gives me understanding of other passages that pertain as well. Â It is a cool process because it keeps it all from being just "head knowledge" Â but it also becomes"heart knowledge." Â God's commandments are "thou shalt not jump off the cliff" signs. Â They are designed to make life easier for us and keep us from getting into deep trouble. Â They are safety laws and warnings. Â I feel safe and secure when I walk with God in a love relationship. It is scary. Yes he does, but He sent His Son to die on a Cross for you so you would not go to hell, but live an eternal life. Â Do you think He sent Jesus to be sacrificed on a whim? On an off chance it may make a difference? Â He sent Jesus to triumph over hell. He sent Jesus to triumph over sin. He sent Jesus because He loves you! Â He sent Jesus for You! Â Why then would He want to see you in hell? Was the death of Jesus a waste of time? Â He. Loves. You.
