why is there an old and new?

So Far As I See It There Is The First Testament Of Jesus (Yeshua)

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Genesis 1:1

And The Second Testament Of Jesus (Yeshua)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. John 1:1-3

Which Should Answer

Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me, Psalms 40:7

Your Question

Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. Hebrews 10:7

it is more than an Old and a New, there are 66 separate books. In gneral terms, they all tend to carry the message that there is a creator, that we sin, that our sin separates us from our creator, and that He has provided a way to bring us back together, and redeem us and His creation in a future time. For reasons of His own, He has chosen faith, as a means to restore our relationship with Him.

The 66 books, tell an unfolding story of all of this. The Old Testament, is mostly about showing us how much we utterly fall short of being able to reach God on our own, but points forward to a time, when a redeamer, a savior, would come and make a way for us. That happened about 2000 years ago in the person of Jesus of Nazareth, and the Old Testament provides over 300 prophecies that would be fulfilled in Jesus' life, so that we would know that the Old Testament was right and true, and so we would be able to identify who, out of all who ever lived, was the savior.

I cannot answer the question of "WHY?". I can only know the mind of God to the degree that He reveals.I do not know why He did things as He did, I assume that I do not have a need to know. However, I do know WHAT He did, and that is important to know.

Old Testament = God made a covenant with a people (basically a contract) detailing how they could go about becoming heirs of God's promise.

New Testament= The inheritance is given when Jesus Christ fulfills the contract.

The books that we have are the only ones that are entirely inspired by God. Many are fiction but they signed them with a familiar name to try to make them seem more credible. These forgeries are pretty easy to detect once you are really familiar with the real thing and are born again. So on TV like Nat Geo they talk about finding lost books of the Bible all the time. They are the forgeries--no real lost books have every shown up. The Catholic church also has some added books. Some are historical and good for information on the years between the time of Daniel and of Christ, but we still don't treat them as the Word of God.

2Co 3:1-9
(1)  Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you?
(2)  Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
(3)  Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
(4)  And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward:
(5)  Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
(6)  Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
(7)  But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
(8)  How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?
(9)  For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.

Heb 9:8-28
(8)  The Holy Spirit clearly teaches from all these arrangements that the way into the Most Holy Place has not yet been opened as long as the outer tent still stands.
(9)  This is a symbol which points to the present time. It means that the offerings and animal sacrifices presented to God cannot make the worshiper's heart perfect,
(10)  since they have to do only with food, drink, and various purification ceremonies. These are all outward rules, which apply only until the time when God will establish the new order.
(11)  But Christ has already come as the High Priest of the good things that are already here. The tent in which he serves is greater and more perfect; it is not a tent made by human hands, that is, it is not a part of this created world.
(12)  When Christ went through the tent and entered once and for all into the Most Holy Place, he did not take the blood of goats and bulls to offer as a sacrifice; rather, he took his own blood and obtained eternal salvation for us.
(13)  The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a burnt calf are sprinkled on the people who are ritually unclean, and this purifies them by taking away their ritual impurity.
(14)  Since this is true, how much more is accomplished by the blood of Christ! Through the eternal Spirit he offered himself as a perfect sacrifice to God. His blood will purify our consciences from useless rituals, so that we may serve the living God.
(15)  For this reason Christ is the one who arranges a new covenant, so that those who have been called by God may receive the eternal blessings that God has promised. This can be done because there has been a death which sets people free from the wrongs they did while the first covenant was in effect.
(16)  In the case of a will it is necessary to prove that the person who made it has died,
(17)  for a will means nothing while the person who made it is alive; it goes into effect only after his death.
(18)  That is why even the first covenant went into effect only with the use of blood.
(19)  First, Moses proclaimed to the people all the commandments as set forth in the Law. Then he took the blood of bulls and goats, mixed it with water, and sprinkled it on the book of the Law and all the people, using a sprig of hyssop and some red wool.
(20)  He said, "This is the blood which seals the covenant that God has commanded you to obey."
(21)  In the same way Moses also sprinkled the blood on the Sacred Tent and over all the things used in worship.
(22)  Indeed, according to the Law almost everything is purified by blood, and sins are forgiven only if blood is poured out.
(23)  Those things, which are copies of the heavenly originals, had to be purified in that way. But the heavenly things themselves require much better sacrifices.
(24)  For Christ did not go into a Holy Place made by human hands, which was a copy of the real one. He went into heaven itself, where he now appears on our behalf in the presence of God.
(25)  The Jewish high priest goes into the Most Holy Place every year with the blood of an animal. But Christ did not go in to offer himself many times,
(26)  for then he would have had to suffer many times ever since the creation of the world. Instead, now when all ages of time are nearing the end, he has appeared once and for all, to remove sin through the sacrifice of himself.
(27)  Everyone must die once, and after that be judged by God.
(28)  In the same manner Christ also was offered in sacrifice once to take away the sins of many. He will appear a second time, not to deal with sin, but to save those who are waiting for him.

the 'old' testament dictated that men live according to a set of rules that governed their actions, or else sacrifice the lives of animals as a 'representative' payment for their errors ('sins').

the 'new' testament dictates that we live according to the leading of the Holy Spirit (Who never leads contrary to the correct application of the  intent of the multitude of laws in the Old Testament), or else claim Jesus' complete sacrifice for our errors ('sins').

Gal 3:19-27
(19)  What, then, was the purpose of the Law? It was added in order to show what wrongdoing is, and it was meant to last until the coming of Abraham's descendant, to whom the promise was made. The Law was handed down by angels, with a man acting as a go-between.
(20)  But a go-between is not needed when only one person is involved; and God is one.
(21)  Does this mean that the Law is against God's promises? No, not at all! For if human beings had received a law that could bring life, then everyone could be put right with God by obeying it.
(22)  But the scripture says that the whole world is under the power of sin; and so the gift which is promised on the basis of faith in Jesus Christ is given to those who believe.
(23)  But before the time for faith came, the Law kept us all locked up as prisoners until this coming faith should be revealed.
(24)  And so the Law was in charge of us until Christ came, in order that we might then be put right with God through faith.
(25)  Now that the time for faith is here, the Law is no longer in charge of us.
(26)  It is through faith that all of you are God's children in union with Christ Jesus.
(27)  You were baptized into union with Christ, and now you are clothed, so to speak, with the life of Christ himself.

the purpose of the OT law was effectively to prove to people that they couldn't earn God's favor through their outward performance, in order to drive them to seek God's mercy and undeserved favor (grace) instead.  Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit to guide us, so that we can focus on God's goodness instead of our own performance; only the Holy Spirit of God can apply the OT laws correctly in each situation we face; we aren't smart enough to apply the multitude of God's laws correctly in any given situation.  it's all about being led by God through fellowship with Him - to know Him.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
