Thank you all so much for responding. I must tell you, I grappled with this decision for awhile. When I woke up this morning, the immense dread and loathing for my job overcame me. At that point, I knew that I knew I had to leave. I had just never done anything so "corporately incorrect" like not give a two weeks notice before and it felt "wrong." I GOT OVER IT!

Reading all of your responses, some before I left for work and some when I got home tonight, really drove the fact home that I needed to leave that job! I am convinced that it was God dropping the proverbial ton of bricks over my head.

I went to work, knowing it was my last day, and just tried to enjoy it. I did! Nothing got to me! In this economy, it's not considered "smart" to quit one job when you don't have another one at the ready. I couldn't have cared less! God is my source. Not a job. When I professed that, I had all kinds of confirmation and strength to do what I had to do.

The icing on the mile-high chocolate fudge decadence cake was... I received three VERY promising job prospects today from guests! (I work-ed at a swanky hotel.) One of them was from an old boss I had! All of the opportunities sound very promising! How God is that?!

My job at the hotel was awful. The hours they advertised were not the hours I was given. I had to work nights and weekends. When I was at work, everyone else was home. When I was home, everyone else was at work. My volunteer work suffered, as did my church attendance/participation. Working in an industry that is open 24/7 is not easy and not for everyone.

Again, thank you all for your kindness, encouragement, wisdom, obedience to the Holy Spirit, and your prayers!!!! I appreciate you all very much!

Can you tell I'm r e a l l y happy?! What a load to have lifted off of me!

By the way, I was told by my union today that the hotel can't give me a bad review to anyone verifying my employment with them. The only information they are allowed to reveal are my start and end dates of employment. Woo hoo! :P

Keith-

I am glad to here that you left there. I am also in that point right now. I lost a job I loved more than anything about 2 1/2 years ago. I got a job at a "Christian" company and it was really great until my husband left me and my dad died from cancer in July 2004. In September I had surgery and was off work for 3 weeks. 2 days after my surgery my supervisor came to my house to check on me and then asked me why I didn't tell her about my husband leaving me. I felt like it was personal and didn't want to share it with everyone. She got mad and said as a boss and Christian she should know so she could pray for me. My supervisor started saying stuff like maybe you need counseling and really trying to get in my business. When I came back to work she was like oh I'm so glad your back but then the mood changed because I wasn't sharing my business with her. SO I started looking for another job. The company was great just not her. SO I got another job making more money but my boss now is worse than she ever thought about being. I got to leave here!! LOL

I think Cat is right. God has to push us out of the nest when he has something better for us. 5 years ago God birthed a vision in my husband about a club/hangout/snack bar for kids. We loved working with youth so that was great that we thought we would be doing that. We even found a building and prayed over it every day. BUT maybe that was not God's timing then and it kinda got put on the back burner. Well since my husband has left me I have been in so much depression I didn't know what God wanted me to really do. BUT now I am over the depression and ready to move on and I feel like God is calling me to go ahead and open this business. I already know the building for it. I can't say I am not scared about doing this on my own (I know I have God but I mean without my husband there for support) but maybe that is why He is pushing me out of the nest so I can open my own business. There are alot of unknown factors right now but God is helping me fill in the blanks. Not only would it be income for me but a place of ministry for young people.

Like you I am ready for whatever God has for me. I can't wait to hear about what kind of new better job you are going to be getting. I will pray for you. Pray for me in my decision about opening my business.

Hard2Catch,

That's true. A prospective employer can ask your previous employer if they would hire you again. I thought about that. Even if the hotel said "no", I am confident that God would give me the words to answer for it.

My work at the hotel was top shelf. Within one week of being there, I earned the hotel international recognition. I also received more written compliment cards from guests than any other person there. I was nominated employee of the month my very first month there. They recognized my integrity and dedication to the job. That's why I was confused as to why they had such a problem with me when all I ever heard before was "praise".

I agree that a two weeks notice is a matter of respect and integrity. That's why I struggle with not being able to give it to them. Today is my first day of unemployment and I have to tell you... I have complete peace!

I would also "talk back" firmly to them if what they were saying was cruel or out of line. I recognized that they were "trying to do their job" and I had to respect that. I still voiced my disagreement with them, but did it with calm, respectful voice.

hey,

dont feel too bad about leaving with out notice. might be the best thing that could happen....

my wife was working in a nursing home, and had received an injury which formed into locked shoulder, she tryed to get workmans comp ( cause it was an injury from lifting ) but because she had not filed with in the specified time frame, she was with out.... whe was doing physical theropy, and the money for that was out of pocket cause it was not considered a workmans comp thing cause there was no workmans paperwork on it that went thru.... after a month of being on limited duty ( light lifting with only one arm ) which they would not allow her to work at all, she started looking for something that she could do with one arm..... she started working in homehealth care..... could pick and choose which jobs she took....

come to find out, the nursing home terminated her with out notice so when we tryed to get cobra and insurance coverage, there was a break in coverage so cobra would not pick her up, until we threatened the nursing home with a sute, and then they adjusted the termination date to when she gave them notice that she was not coming back. then we got cobra...

we are still having problems with insurance cause it seems that the break in coverage still shows up from time to time.... sheeesh.....

by the way, the Lord took her shoulder and loosend it up one evening, the theropy was not working, and one evening, during her prayer time, her arm shot straight up and has been total ever since.

If you find something else, do the right thing and give notice. It's only another week or two in a crummy job, but you will have a lifetime of knowing you are a stand up guy who did the right thing.

You also never know if you will need to return there, as bad as that thought may be. The new job might not work out, or some other circumstance might happen in which you may need to go back to the first job and ask to be re-employed. Or, what if your former employer is vindictive and calls your new employer and lets them know that you are a "walk out"? It's easy to find out where someone works.

I totally understand not wanting to give notice and feeling 'justified' and I know how those last two weeks are - you feel like an outsider and are treated like a 'traitor' sometimes because you are leaving. But do the right thing for your reputation and your own peace of mind.

Keith,

I would tend to agree with sister WIP here. She gave good advice.

I left a job one time under severe pressure. No notice. Really in anger.:)

As WIP has said,

I totally understand not wanting to give notice and feeling 'justified' and I know how those last two weeks are - you feel like an outsider and are treated like a 'traitor' sometimes because you are leaving. But do the right thing for your reputation and your own peace of mind.

The one thing I used to regret was that one mark on my record. Sure some may never know it? The Lord really taught me a lesson in it. The last Job I had I had to leave as the Lord did nudge me out as well.

I reflected back on both occasions and decided the later was the way the Lord would have me act.

You see simply because I was driven out in anger and in the feeling I was justified didn't make a good witness to what I had professed there. Of course there is no condemnation in Christ. Although the enemy sure tried to use it against me.

Keep your eyes focused on Christ and move forward from this point. If the Lord has nudged you out? He always makes the path clear for you. It may be that He was wanting you to use your remaining time there to wait on Him and be a strong witness for His Righteousness?

Myself? I am still learning not to act rashly. Just to wait on the Lord. Letting Him act on my behalf. Letting Him trip up all the snares so that I may walk in and posess the Land He has for me. That is why He is God and I the man.

As I've said Brother Keith. What's done is done though. Keep your focus on Christ now and watch for where He is working around you. So that your feet will be on solid ground. :P

May God Richly Bless you in any endeavor you find yourself in. :)

Peace,

Dave

That's absolutely wonderful Keith. Our God is an awesome God isn't He. I know that He's with you where ever you are.

God Bless You

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
