not so important, what is, is that he rose again on the third day. As a sign to everyone that God sent him

You are absolutely right brother.

It is important because people preach another Jesus and accept another Jesus that rose on Sunday morning

Shabbat shalom, everyone.

Because of some of the discussion we've been having in the "Did Jesus Go To Hell?" topic, I thought it best to "start" a new topic on this question, "Was Jesus crucified on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday?" Since it already existed but has lain dormant for 4 years, why re-invent the wheel?

So, in keeping with the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of our Lord, I'm "resurrecting" this thread.

There are THREE facts about Hebrew time-keeping one must know and keep them in mind when considering this question:

1. Any part of a day counts as the full day. That's also true for a night; any part of a night counts as the full night.

2. The Hebrew calendar is lunar; therefore, months are true "moonths"; that is, they begin with the first sighting of the new moon. That day is called "Ro'sh Chodesh," the "Head of the Month." As has been said earlier in this thread, the 15th of Nissan (the day of Pesach or Passover, Nissan being the name of the spring month in which it occurs) will vary from year to year since the 29-30 days of a month is not divisible by the 7 days of the week. By the way, the 15th of Nissan, halfway between new moons, will ALWAYS fall on the full moon! The Hebrew calendar RARELY coincides with the Gregorian Calendar.

3. The Hebrew way of looking at a 24-hour day is that it begins at sundown with the sighting of the first three stars. "The evening and the morning were the first day," as we read in Genesis 1:5. Thus, the night comes before the day on "Day 1" called the "Head Day" or "Yowm Ri'shown," the first day of the week, that we call "Sunday." Because the Roman week (influenced by their gods and a few pagan gods) has 24-hour days that begin at midnight (12:00 AM), only 3/4ths of our day coincides with the Hebrew 24-hour day. This is why one can find Messianic Synagogues that have Shabbat services that are on Friday night, since after sundown, the Shabbat or Sabbath (which we mostly associate with "Saturday") begins.

Because of point 3, we have another fact that must be considered found in Jonah 1:17:

Jonah 1:17 (KJV)

17 Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

The listing of days and THEN nights, is, by Hebrew timekeeping, BACKWARDS from "the evening and the morning" order. Therefore, the ORDER is important! He was swallowed by the great fish at some time on the first day and was regurgitated upon dry ground at some time on the third night:

Jonah 2:10 (KJV)

10 And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

The "at some time" parts in my last statement are because of point 1 above.

So, Yeshua` made this a point to the scribes and Pharisees who came to demand a sign from Him:

John 12:38-41 (KJV)

38 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. 39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: 40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. 41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

So, once again, the ORDER is important! Yeshua` would be "in the heart of the earth" at some time on the first day, and He would rise again from the dead at some time on the third night. This fact can easily correspond to the 17+ mentions of His rising from the dead occurring "on the third (24-hour) day." (As per Alan Hales.)

(Sorry so sloppy, but scratched my head alot about how to include it all!) Of course, the blue areas are times of darkness and the yellow areas are times of daylight.

Some have INSISTED on 72 hours, but one has no guarantee of that much time. In fact, very little time was included for the first daylight period; He was barely in the tomb before they were seeing the three stars necessary for the new day, Pesach, to begin. We know that He died on 14 Nissan because it was the day of Preparation when the lambs were slaughtered for the Pesach feast beginning the next day (15 Nissan).

ANY theory that does not obey the principle of passover's "THREE days thick darkness" on "This That Selfsame Whole Day BONE-DAY" on "the fourteenth day of the First Month", on "the fifteenth day of the First Month", and, on "the sixteenth day of the First Month", is doomed to fail from the word go.

No 'fact!' The "first day they KILLED the passover" started HERE

IN THE GOSPELS: Mark 14:12,17 Matthew 26:17,20 Luke 22:7,14 John 13:1,30 1Corinthians 11:23,

and lasted until sunset after Our Passover had DIED 'mid-afternoon' "This That Selfsame Whole-Day BONE-DAY" as in the

LAW AND PROPHETS, HERE: Exodus 12:17,41,42,51 Leviticus 23:14,21 Deuteronomy 32:48-50 Joshua 5:10...

Shabbat shalom, gerhard eber.

Sorry, but the day that they "KILLED the passover" lamb (hakeves) for each family, was a day of WORK or do you think that the lambs just magically fell down dead? The Passover itself (Pesach) was a day of REST and began at sundown! It was (and technically still is) a "SHABBAT!" YHWH originally passed over their houses at midnight and allowed the destroyer - the death angel - to kill the firstborn of every family which was not protected by the blood splashed/painted on the lintel and on the door posts of that house, whether Israeliy or Goy. The feast of unleavened bread lasted for seven days (occasionally eight), but the Passover was just one night and day of that feast.

Yeshua` observed a seder with His disciples the night PRIOR to His death (obviously), the 14th of Nissan, but the Passover Meal in which they ate the LAMB (not just the unleavened bread or matsowt) was the NEXT night, the 15th of Nissan, the beginning of the 24-hour period, the NIGHTTIME AFTER SUNDOWN! The disciples were clueless (and shouldn't have been) about what was to transpire that next day and had "booked the room" for the Passover meal also.

Be careful with your "facts"; it's easy to get mixed up in the New Testament, especially in our English translations of the Greek translations of the Aramaic/Hebrew writings of the first century with our Western English viewpoints and thinking!

There are eight days of 'passover',

"The first day they always had to KILL the passover" ... as above; also called "Preparation of / Preparing for the passover" Exodus 12:21-27  Ezekiel 45:21-23  2Chronicles 30:15; 35:1=4=6=10,11=13,14=15=16,17=19 SEVEN times "prepared" = "kept" passover and an eighth time, "made ready = the passover" AS IN John 19:14!

"Forbear thee from meddling with God (or God's Word) who is with Me (Jesus Christ "Our Passover" of "the fourteenth day of the First Month", "that He not destroy thee" or thy theories : 2Chronicles 30 verse 21!

Forget your '~occasionally eight~' for which you have ZERO Scripture.

The eight days comprised "the first day they KILLED the passover" passover day "the fourteenth day of the First Month", plus the "seven (more) days unleavened bread EATEN" of which seven days the first day ONLY "on the fifteenth day of the First Month" after sunset "late evening", "At That First Night", Israel ate "unleavened bread WITH THE FLESH" of the passover sacrifice sacrificed the day before sunset "mid-afternoon late on the fourteenth day of the First Month".

"booked the room" for the Passover meal

No such Scripture! The room was booked beforetime; the owner knew; Jesus said so. But nothing says '~for the Passover meal~'. It is written only of "prepared preparations that they might eat the passover" after the already ongoing but still prospective Day of "Preparation of the Passover" on which the passover would be sacrificed to be eaten after sunset thereafter.

How many times is it written He would rise, "the third DAY", never '~on the third night~'!

Jesus was finished entombed Luke 23:54 "That Day the Preparation the Sabbath approaching" three hours before sunset Friday "due to the Jews' preparations" having begun. John 19:42. "That Day the Preparation", "which is the Fore-Sabbath" Mark 15:42 "had begun since", "it already was evening" Mark 15:42 Matthew 27:57 John 19:31 "and Joseph had besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus." John 19:38.

The day Jesus was crucified and died was over by at least three hours and a sundown and the new day the fifteenth day of the First Month, had had started when "Joseph suddenly came there" Luke 23:50, Jesus' body STILL ON THE CROSS and no prospect that it could come off any time soon.

It was '15 Nissan' "already" now, "And the Jews therefore, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath, for That Day was great-day-of-sabbath-of (passover), besought Pilate that their legs might be broken and their bodies be taken away."

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
