When the Islamic State commander known as “Omar the Chechen” called to tell his father they’d routed the Iraqi army and taken the city of Mosul, he added a stark message: Russia would be next.

“He said ‘don’t worry dad, I’ll come home and show the Russians,’” Temur Batirashvili said from his home in Georgia's Pankisi Gorge, on the border with the Russian region of Chechnya. “I have many thousands following me now and I’ll get more. We’ll have our revenge against Russia.”

As the U.S. and European countries assess the risk of home-grown jihadists returning to stage attacks on their native countries, the turmoil in the Middle East also reverberates in the Caucasus. The region wedged between Russia, Iran and Turkey is an intricate web of tensions that’s erupted into violence in the past three decades in hot spots from Chechnya to Nagorno-Karabakh and Georgia.

A lot of people think that ISIS is staged, being led almost entirely by Westerners who aren't Muslim at all and are just using it as a scare tactic after the West's failure to garner support against their war against Al-Assad in Syria.

Born in 1986 to a Christian father and Georgian Chechen Muslim mother, he had fought in the 2008 war and rose to the rank of sergeant in an intelligence unit. Two years later he was dismissed for health reasons. It was during his subsequent prison term that his religious faith deepened and upon his release he returned home and burned his family’s pictures of himself, according to his father Temur. Batirashvili then left Georgia to resurface as Omar al-Shishani, or “Omar the Chechen,” leading dozens of his compatriots and others in the siege of Aleppo in northern Syria. He soon after assumed control of Islamic State’s northern forces. When the Islamic State commander known as “Omar the Chechen” called to tell his father they’d routed the Iraqi army and taken the city of Mosul, he added a stark message: Russia would be next. “He said ‘don’t worry dad, I’ll come home and show the Russians,’” Temur Batirashvili said from his home in Georgia’s Pankisi Gorge, on the border with the Russian region of Chechnya. “I have many thousands following me now and I’ll get more. We’ll have our revenge against Russia.”
He was an intelligence operative for two years, his "family" evidently has no photos of him, and he magically rises from Sergeant to General in the ranks of the world's newest terror group. Not only that, but the victories the article claims he's responsible for--most notably the capture of Mosul--completely contradict the article's background of his character! He is implied to have a a very good, ongoing relationship with his Christian father, but when ISIS advanced into northern Iraq (and really, anywhere else) they slaughter and/or drive away Christians. This seems really creepy and suspicious! Does anyone else get that sense?

I'm not sure how you mean? Don't forget that he had a Muslim mother.

I'm not sure how you mean? Don't forget that he had a Muslim mother.

Well, there are four key facts about him:

1. His alleged "family" has no childhood photographs of him, or any photos at all.

2. Despite having a positive relationship with his Christian father, he is alleged to have led the slaughter and persecution of tens of thousands of Christians.

3. Prior to the rise of ISIS, he was a government intelligence operative.

4. He was catapulted from leading only a few dozen soldiers in Syria to suddenly planning and spearheading the invasion of northern Iraq with thousands of troops under his command.

The CIA, KGB, and other intelligence agencies have a long record of inciting insurrections in foreign countries. This man goes from working in intelligence in one country's military to suddenly joining up with a terror organization and being instated as one of their top leaders. Further, he and his organization act like they're completely intolerant and hate Christians, but we are simultaneously being told that his father is a Christian and that they keep in touch with one another.

These things just don't point towards him being "an evil radical Muslim terrorist that hates Christians," which is the image the media is trying to sell about him and everyone else in ISIS. ISIS is definitely bad, but just like we saw in Libya, their top commanders are evidently all foreigners with ties to other groups--this man with his home country's intelligence service. What if the people that say that ISIS is being controlled by the governments of the U.S., Saudi Arabia, etc. are correct?

It's not unusual for people from Christian backgrounds to convert to Islam, flip completely and turn into terrorists. There are many documented cases. Satanic possession can occur in just about anybody if they allow it.

Samantha Lewthwaite (the White Widow) came from a Catholic background and is now a Muslim terrorist.

Michael Adebolajo (the murderer of Lee Rigby) was raised a Christian.

Yusuf Islam (formerly Cat Stevens) was a Greek Orthodox Christian, now he's a Muslim who called for the slaying of Salman Rushdie.

The list goes on.....

As for ISIS they are pure evil. They do indeed despise Christians. There's no media spin here. All those Christian heads didn't fall off by themselves.

No one is saying that "Omar" was ever Christian, or that ISIS isn't killing people. ><

Sounds like the US and Russia, should put their differences aside (controlling energy trade with Europe) and join together to end this problem.  We worked together in WWII, who's to say we can't do something like that again?

Also, that chechen islamist has some pretty advanced tactical, and strategic knowledge for someone that came out of nowhere.  Where did he learn to lead and use these highly successful tactics against Iraq?

‘Brilliant’ Maneuvers  http://www.businessweek.com/news/2014-10-08/how-islamic-state-grooms-chechen-fighters-against-putin

Al-Shishani is the tactical mastermind behind Islamic State’s swift military gains on the ground in Iraq’s Anbar province, west of Baghdad, including an encirclement in which his forces killed as many as 500 Iraqi troops and captured 180 more near Fallujah, according to Daveed Gartenstein-Ross, senior fellow at the Washington-based Foundation for Defense of Democracies.

Al-Qaeda's Heirs

“The group’s recent success in Anbar can be attributed primarily to one exceptional field commander and ISIL official, Abu Umar al-Shishani, who executed a series of brilliant tactical maneuvers,” he wrote today, using another form of al-Shishani’s name, for War on the Rocks, a website that provides analysis and news on military conflicts.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
