I never hear of why they take drugs in the first place .. does a person get addicted for the sake of it ?? to me that seems stupid .. a person can't get addicted to something unless its enticing .. true .. I was addicted to the PS2 that my father gave me for my birthday one time .. although not a drug .. its an analogy of my question ..

They become addicted because that's what drugs do to the body and mind. But it isn't something God can't cure. The best natural drug I ever felt is the Holy Spirit and it's ok to get addicted to it...

Alchohol, tobacco, caffeine (personal weakness of mine) even things like Porn, money, cars. Sin is in us all.

A better question to ask is not why people choose to find solas in drugs, but what about their past lead them to believe all the lies that drugs offer. Show them mercy and understanding. You may just have the truth they are looking for.
Guest
why do people take drugs ?? all I hear is that people get addicted to them .. I was addicted to the PS2 that my father gave me for my birthday one time .. although not a drug .. its an analogy of my question .. As a drug addict that only Jesus could clean up, I can say along with some others here that humans can get "strung out" or addicted to just about anything. Humans were originally made for worship -- worshipping the one true God who created us, and if we won't worship Him we try to fill that void with something else. I've also heard it described as a coping mechanism, etc. Some express it like this, "When your life sucks you look for any relief you can find," some will say, "Booze, drugs, sex, or all of the above." For me, it started with life going nowhere. (It seemed that way at the time, anyway.) I was bored, just out of the military, and there were more drugs at university than I'd seen in some pharmacies. Then I got in with a "wrong" crowd that oddly enough had good grades . . . got introduced to something to help study before exams . . . then it was game on. I was in my late 30's . . . and had to go to university to become a drug addict. I don't think that's what they meant by a "higher" education. Peer pressure, social circumstance, and a whole lot of other reasons probably contribute. Also our resistance to enduring pain, as modern man, has reduced over the years. Everyone wants an instant fix to every little ailment (this is a generalization, and there are people who really need pain relief), but America is probably in the forefront of offering prescription pain killing drugs. It is a multi bullion dollar industry. What makes the USA different in this regard to other countries? Ease of access I guess might be one. As to the illegal stuff, the whole world is awash with it, and in some Muslim states like Indonesia, it is a raging epidemic. Hence the death penalty for dealing and smuggling drugs there. I was for many years addicted to sugar. Yes it is an addiction and sugar is a form of drug in my opinion... Now I have type 2 diabetes which I control through diet, exercise, and sigh....drugs. I was on them for a long time, it started with small doses for lower back disc pain, then increased more and more on the dosage. Next thing I knew I couldn't tell if I was taking them for pain or for the feel good high from them. After years I finally told myself that I would prefer to feel pain than to be a zombie on meds. But thankfully the Lord healed my pain after all.

I never looked back and only want Tylenol for pain if needed.

The VA used to send me three months worth of Hydrocodone at a time which I always thought was nuts..... I checked my bottle last week to see how many were in there in case I have another fall while we are traveling (not uncommon) and found many...... problem is that I don't use them very often and the expiration date was 2012.. Doctor says use them anyway. Oklahoma is working on a state wide system of keeping track of any drugs we purchase that are habit forming... that will keep people from seeing more than one doctor.... I don't know how it will work, but it sounds like a good idea for as I understand most of the people we have in prison are there due to some kind of a drug problem..... either possession or thief to be able to buy..... or go nuts and shoot someone.
