What about you Ayin Jade? A couple of things. Forgiving hubby when I found out he was a drunk one Christmas eve in the distant past (he doesnt drink now). Forgiving the man (and praying for his salvation too) who murdered my brother in law this past december.

It takes a lot doesnt it? Without the Lord I could not have forgiven.

Knowing God makes the difference as apart from Him we'd have no hope of getting through anything. Without God I know I could not have forgiven or learned to walk in it. What makes it difficult for me to forgive isn't the magnitude of the sin committed against me, but how intimate I was with the person who committed it. In other words, it's easier for me to forgive a stranger doing something really bad to me, than someone very close doing something minor. Also, how often I'm reminded of what hurt me plays a part. The less I'm reminded, the easier it is. When I'm having trouble with forgiveness, I remind myself of the parable of the unforgiving servant. It isn't hard after that. She beat religion into her own kids, screaming, 'spare the rod and spoil the child' as she did so, the evil so and so!I pray God would grant you the grace that is needed to forgive such evils that were done in your personal life from such an early age. I am sorry you had to endure such violence and evil intent in the name of religion but that wasn't God's display of love for you but it was the cross Jesus bore for our sins.
