The forgiveness of sins paves the way of eternal life (Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23, Romans 5:8, Romans 5:12). Available to all mankind (1 Timothy 4:10. 1 John 2:2) but granted to only those who believe the Lord Jesus (John 3:16-18) which is the faith that activates this prepaid forgiveness.

Ephesians 2:8–10 (AV)

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

By his death we are forgiven. By his resurrection we are raised with him to life eternal.

Eternal life is not free......   Jesus paid a terrible price for it.

It is precisely because the terrible price was paid that eternal life is a free gift from God.  So to say "it is NOT free" is to contradict Scripture.

Eternal life it is free for mankind, but it was not the same for Jesus, he had to go through a lot, and he risked to loose his own life, and God took also the risk to loose his Son, and our future was in the hands of Jesus, would he delivered or mankind  would be left without a deliverer, and without a heavenly inheritance.

It's free to you and I.....    it certainly was not free concerning Jesus.   To say it is is absurd.

Eternal life, heaven and salvation is a free gift to those who believe in Jesus. Jesus made it really easy and simple.

Guest Robert

For us (mankind, who is spiritually bankrupt), it HAD to be free. We certainly had no "currency" to buy it with, as there is none righteous. No, not one.

For Jesus, on  the other hand, it cost Him EVERYTHING. The price was horrific, yet He paid it on our behalf knowing that we could NEVER pay.

We can ask "Why is it free?", but consider the consequences if it had not have been. When you think about that and what it takes to pay that kind of price, you have your answer.

You and I know how precious eternal life is. And that it cannot be acquired by any other means than the free gift paid for by Jesus Christ, activated by faith in him (which is also a free gift). There is a "cost" involved, however. This is what Jesus was driving at when he said to first count the cost.

Luke 14:25–35 (AV)
25 And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,
26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,
30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?
32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.
33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.
34 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?
35 It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Most Christians (non-Catholics anyway) would be shocked to hear there even is a cost. A price to be paid for faith in Jesus Christ. For the majority of the time Protestants preach a cheap grace (all ya gotta do is believe...). To get saved, that is true. Once you are saved even if you do nothing at all, the enemy of the cross (in human or spirit form) is out to get you! That's a price t be paid by the individual believer.

That's if you do nothing (once you are saved).

Salvation is acquired only by faith in Christ Jesus. Those who say this passage teaches you can lose your salvation by losing your faith in Jesus, misapply the logic of and purpose for what Jesus is saying. Salvation is eternal life already begun the moment we believe.††† But here he is warning people to be soberly mindful about the trials and tribulations that are coming. For even if you only have a "dunghill faith" you will be opposed and persecuted for that faith.

Most Churches teach a dunghill faith, a faith that is dead (according to James 2 which is still faith enough to be saved btw John 3:16-18, Ephesians 2:8-10) which produces nothing of use to God other than the people who have such faith (good only to be spread on the path of life to be trampled under the feet of men)...

A truth you will never actually hear: "Uh where do you go to Church?" One asks. "Dunghill Baptist," the other replies.... or "Downtrodden Presbyterian."

All the denominations are interchangeable in the example btw. I'm not singling out any particular one.

God loves us, and there is joy in heaven over the faith of one sinner. But a faith that does not grow or produce or reproduce (by getting others saved) isn't really much of a return on God's personal investment. We must count the cost beginning with the fact that we are not our own we are bought with a price (1 Corinthians 6:19-20, 1 Corinthians 7:23).

Then have an active, living faith in him who loves you and I so. That way in addition to the enemies of the cross coming after you... fellow believers will come gunning for you too. Sad but true.

There is a cost, a price to be paid, after the gift is received. But it is soooooo worth it!!!

40 And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23

If you asked the average person whether or not they would like to live forever, almost everyone would say “Yes”.  If you asked the same people if they would like to receive God’s gift of eternal life, they would probably give you a blank stare.

For the average person, “There is no such thing as a free lunch”.  Then why should the most precious thing – eternal life – be a free gift?  And because such is human reasoning, the vast bulk of humanity is involved with some kind of religion, even if it consists of self-worship. All religions require human effort in order to be accepted by God, and even then, there is no certainty of acceptance.

But when we come to the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, we are shocked to find that God literally offers us the gift of eternal life freely. So why is eternal life a free gift and not something to be earned with our own efforts at being righteous, moral and good?

1. We must be as perfect as God (Matthew 5;48)

2. We can never be as perfect as God (Romans 3:9-23)

3. We would all be separated from God unless He did something for us (Romans 3:24-26; 5:6-11)

4. Christ has paid the full penalty for all our sins (2 Corinthians 5:21; 1John 2:1,2).

5. Eternal life is therefore a free gift to those who repent and believe the Gospel (1 John 5:1-13).

Everything in the universe decays to a lower form.  This is by God's design.  Only through faith in Jesus can we have eternal life in Him.  Eternal life is a free gift that we cannot earn from our works.  We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus.

Every one is an eternal being we all live forever, we never stop to exist, we are born, and even thought we die physically, we continue to live forever.

We all have this free gift of living eternally by birth.

No one ever stops to exist, unless you believe something else.

2 Corinthians 5 - New American Standard Bible (NASB)

The Temporal and Eternal

For we know that if [a]the earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For indeed in this house we groan, longing to be clothed with our dwelling from heaven, inasmuch as we, having put it on, will not be found naked. For indeed while we are in this tent, we groan, being burdened, because we do not want to be unclothed but to be clothed, so that what is mortal will be swallowed up by life. Now He who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave to us the Spirit as a [b]pledge.

Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord— for we walk by faith, not by [c]sight— we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord. Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for [d]his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

11 Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade men, but we are made manifest to God; and I hope that we are made manifest also in your consciences. 12 We are not again commending ourselves to you but are giving you an occasion to be proud of us, so that you will have an answer for those who take pride in appearance and not in heart. 13 For if we [e]are beside ourselves, it is for God; if we are of sound mind, it is for you. 14 For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died; 15 and He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.

16 Therefore from now on we recognize no one [f]according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ [g]according to the flesh, yet now we know Him in this way no longer. 17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, [h]he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 18 Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and [i]He has [j]committed to us the word of reconciliation.

20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
