I don't really know where to post this, so I did it here. Some friends and I were having a discussion and they wanted to discuss drinking. They asked me if it is completally wrong to drink. They said that they don't think that it is becuase Jesus drank wine in the bible. They defined drinking as havin one or two drinks about once a week. I wasen't sure what to tell them so I said that I would look into it and let them know. Pleas help me. I don't know what to tell them.

I'm not sure if it is good or not. Alcohol is never good for your health. I drink wine and I stopped drinking the other stuff when I found God. It didn't seem to mesh together. I chose a healthy life with God.

Some people can't drink even small amounts of alcohol safely, but a lot of us do drink a glass of wine or a beer with a meal. I personally don't think it is a sin to have fermented alcohol in very moderate amounts. Now where you drink and with whom, and why may well be a different story.

Jesus did drink wine when he was here and made many gallons at one wedding at the direction of his mother.

The Bible is very clear on abusing alcohol in any way and tells us not to become drunk. A little wine is good for your digestive system and your heart as well. More than just a little is bad for your health physically and mentally.

I think the sin is in getting drunk, not drinking in moderation.

If I'm out with freinds or on the river boating in the summer, I will have a few beers or wine coolers. I never drink hard liquor. And I never get drunk.

I don't see the harm in it if done in moderation.

Proverbs 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Leviticus 10:9 Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations:

Leviticus 10:10 And that ye may put difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean;

Proverbs 31:4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:

1 Timothy 5:23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.

There are many others verses as you might guess, including those about ministers to God not drinking strong drink or wine BEFORE they go to minister. Also, pregnant woman are not to drink strong drink or wine.

Overall, I think it is a matter of faith and our relationship with God. God took drinking out of my life completely. I praise Him for that and in retrospect, one drink easily leads to a second drink and about that time our will begins to be effected and one more won't hurt. So at least for me, it is good that I don't drink. But for those who drink in moderation or on special occasions, I have no problem with, but if there is strong drink at an activity, I will avoid it because someone is going to make a fool of themselves and I just would rather not be there when they do.

Back in Jesus' time there wine wasn't like ours today. It was lower in alcahol. It's not wrong to take a drink as long as you know when to stop. Because we are to be of sound mind.

Also keep in mind that scripture says that if you believe something is a sin and you do it, then you have sinned... even if it may not really be a sin at all.

Can anybody think of the reference for this scripture?
