Pope Francis said Monday that fundamentalism was "a disease of all religions", including the Roman Catholic Church, but had nothing to do with God.

"Fundamentalism is always a tragedy. It is not religious, it lacks God, it is idolatrous," the Argentine pontiff told journalists on the plane during his return from a trip to Africa.

Francis said Islam was not the only religion to suffer from violent extremists, such as the ones behind the deadly attacks in Paris which were claimed by the Islamic State.

"We Catholics, we have a few, even many fundamentalists. They believe they know absolute truth and corrupt others," he said, adding: "I can say this because this is my Church".

Fundamentalism in Islam = evil

Fundamentalism in Christianity = righteousness

Francis is seriously misguided.

I don't think I would say a buffoon, but maybe a tool.   The leaders of the Catholic Church has been misguided for hundreds of years and each generation feeds the next....
Satan has been in direct control since 1963 and a good number of the cardinals work directly for him....      Not someone or something we would want to trust, but he's not a dummy.

Exactly. He has no interest in the truth, but is willing to equate Christians fundamentalists with rabid Islamists, and then goes on to say that Christians and Muslims are "brothers" (in the same speech).  An absolute hypocrite, since he regards evangelical and fundamentalist Christians as heretics.

Something else to note which is significant.  People like Obama and his administrative lackeys, and now the Pope and the UN, are using the buzz words "violent extremism" to deflect attention away from all the radical Muslim groups, and put the onus on non-Muslims instead. "Violent extremism" means there should be gun-control (except for ISIS, Hamas, Hezbollah, Al Qaeda, etc).

Francis has spoken or done quite a few heretic or anti-Scriptural things.

1/ He said that Atheists go to heaven too

2/ He invited Muslims inside the Vatican for interfaith prayers

3/ He mentioned Man-made Global Warming / Climate change as a major concern of our times completely ignoring the fact that God controls the weather

I'm sure that there are more that I can't remember off the top of my head

It may be time to reintroduce the ancient practice of walking the plank.

I haven't spoke to the guy but have only read what others have said about him.  I don't have any reason to believe in a 'pope' so it doesn't matter much what he says.

What he says might matter to you someday, when the repercussions of his actions finally affects you personally.

I hear what you are saying, but as Christians we should watch out for the signs....
