The Parable of the Sower Explained

18 Therefore hear the parable of the sower: 19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it,then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside.

20 But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles.

22 Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. 23 But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

Luke gives us even more detail:

Luk 8:5 A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.
Luk 8:6 And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.
Luk 8:7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.
Luk 8:8 And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
 

And then,  Jesus' explanation of the parable: 

Luk 8:11 ¶Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
Luk 8:12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
Luk 8:13 They on the rock [are they], which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
Luk 8:14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of [this] life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
Luk 8:15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep [it], and bring forth fruit with patience.

We see in verse 13 they:

• received the word - 
  1. to receive favourably, give ear to, embrace, make one's own, approve, not to reject -
• with JOY
• believed for a while - 
  1. to trust in Jesus or God as able to aid either in obtaining or in doing something: saving faith
• then fell away - 
  1. to fall away, become faithless

So their belief was genuine, a saving faith, their joy was real, they quickly and easily and truly received the truths of the Christian faith and embraced them - yet they fell away, became faithless.


People turn back because it is hard regardless of what makes it hard.   Obviously, choices are not so easy as you make out.   Becoming overconfident is a precarious place to be.

 

Excuses.

If you hve faith, you can do ALL things.

This includes OVERCOMING the temptation to turn back.

Reread Luke 8:15.

As believers we need to stop making excuses when it comes to following the words of the Bible.

I cant say "when" because I dont have a time machine.

I can say "how".  Someone added it.

I cant say "who" because I will need that time machine.

It is suggestive, nothing more.

You have no conclusive proof, just something that suggests something happened.

The baptismal formula is found in the book of Acts, and that is the correct way to baptise.  In the NAME of Yashua.  

There is overwhelming evidence that it didnt exist until long after the apostles had died.
