Asking For God's Blessing

Is it wrong to ask for God's blessing on your own life? I know you should ask for God's blessing on other people. But I feel kind of self serving if I ask for God to bless my own life.

no its not wrong. look at jacob when he wrestled with the angel of the Lord he said he wasnt letting go til he was blessed.

It depends on how you are asking. Are you asking in a selfish way? Are you asking because you want but have no desire to live for Him? Or are you seriously asking God to work in your life in an amazing way so that He can use you to further His kingdom? 

There is nothing wrong with asking God to work in your life and to bless you as He does. It is scriptural. Here are some verses

Psalm 67:6-7, "6 The land yields its harvest; God, our God, blesses us. May God bless us still, so that all the ends of the earth will fear him." I would encourage reading the whole Psalm however. 

Philippians 4:19, "19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus."

2 Corinthians 2:9, "8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work."

There are a lot of so called Christians that try to use God as a genie and expect Him to bless when they are not even living for Him. LadyKay I am not saying that you are one of those people I was just making a statement :). 

I ask God to bless my life all the time. However I also know that His will is going to be done not mine. I have to be willing to accept that as well.

Funny you should ask. For years in staff prayer sessions I was always reluctant to mention MY needs and desires. Finally one day my pastor cut to the heart of my reluctance, by saying it is good of Neighbor to come each week and pray for us having no needs of his own for which we too might pray.

Oops, pride,  pride not humility, was laid bare, my pride. I had lifted myself above all others, willing to sincerely pray for the needs of others, but never ask God for  His blessing  upon me, nor let anyone else know my needs so that they might petition God for me.

So I conclude that no it is not self serving at all to ask for God's blessing on my own life. Instead it is pride that  kept me, a saint in Christ Jesus, from asking for and receiving the blessing of God. It was a lack of humility.
