Some have lost their only children. I think that is the issue of some sad sensitivity, not that a parent has died but that one's only child may have. Yet the advice is pretty much the same. I only acknowledge that it may be a bit hurtful for a lady that lost her only child in child birth to have moms stand and be applauded. Makes for a sad moment for her. But life is full of sad moments, just have to take them one at a time and move on, applaud the other mom's if that is the habit. Personally I can do without it. I'd rather honor mom every day without reminding someone of their own loss or suffering of a child. To want to have children and never have been able I can see where it hurts on Mother's Day celebrations. Edited May 14, 2017 by Neighbor

I am wondering why you are so sensitive to Churches honoring these people.
Guest
I'm not married nor do I have children. When Mother's Day comes around I don't feel slighted. I have felt great loss over this in the past and continue to feel that way at times, but it could be on any given day, but I don't feel slighted. I think we need to do more for our good moms and dads and show them we appreciate them for raising healthy kids.

Yes, hurtful in a way I could never understand, therefore we must be ever more considerate of those who are sensitive, and while the church I attend is carefully considerate of those who are hurting on days like today, I'd imagine some never give it a second thought. I've seen how many times I've been wrong because I lacked understanding, then when I hear their story i can understand its more than just being "sad". I hated going to them too, and so did my wife (we have one grown up child now). So, we just never showed up on Mom or Dads day. Problem solved. If it wasn't for the mother or father of each of us we'd not be here by God's will to undertake the question. Honor your father and mother. Why would that be an issue? Especially one that would cause someone to not attend church on the day it happens there. Too many kids today don't honor their mother or father. They're out of control and sinking deeply into the traps of the world. Some mother's they don't deserve it. And some don't even have a mother. This holyday it is not all inclusive. Better stay home and or fellowship with others with similar situations. And consult one another . If someone says "happy mother's day", they just try to be polite .
