You've done very well here, Brother Bill, but no amount of proof, personal testimony, logic, or Scripture is going to change the minds of the Catholic Haters.

Facts? Noone has yet brought any scriptural basis for which a person is allowed to pray to a departed saint.

is this not idolatry?

Holy Mary Mother of God

Queen of Heaven

Virgin of Virgins?

MARY ISN'T EVEN A VIRGIN ANY MORE! SHE HAD 4 OTHER SONS AND AT LEAST TWO DAUGHTERS THAT ARE RECORDED IN THE SCRIPTURES.

First, I'd sure like for you to explain how that practice could be considered idolatry.

Second, while I believe the evidence is strong that Mary had other children, a case can be made to the contrary. Either way, whether or not Mary had other children has no bearing on our salvation.

The title "queen of heaven" however does have serious implications. Mary is NOT the queen of heaven, and the only queen of heaven mentioned in the bible is in Jeremiah, and it is an idol (the moon).

As I read through the bible (many times now) it seems to me that Jesus told us that we should ask in his name when we pray.

Also when the disciples asked him to teach them how to pray he replied:

Luke 11:1-4

Matt 6:9-13

9 "Pray, then, in this way:

'Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name.

10'Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done,

On earth as it is in heaven.

11'Give us this day our daily bread.

12'And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

13'And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.]'

NASB

It seems to me that His example is to take our petition strait to the father, and to do so in His name.

I don't understand by what authority some pray to or through any other but to the Father through the Son.

I have not been through the RCC class to learn about such things, but I've read the bible several times and I just don't understand where the authority comes from.

William please forgive my skepticism here, for I was raised in the Church of Christ where I was taught that anyone not baptized by a member of that belief was going to hell...... so I usually must really study on these things for myself now as to whether or not to accept them.

As long as you confess that Jesus is Lord (your Lord) and believe that the Father raised Him from the dead, you're OK with me on the basics. From there it seems that whole world has scattered out like the people from Babylon when the Lord confounded their language.

I would only say that there is no better way to the Father than direct through the name of Jesus, but if Aunt Dorey can help....... well I don't know..... don't know if it is possible or even necessary.

I won't be like my CoC brothers and condemn you to hell over it though :57_57:

You do not realize how comforting it is to have the mind hermetically sealed against the polluting influence of facts!

Thank you for the support, but I have encountered this for 20+ years in my defending the Faith, good sir!

But I fear this thread will soon be locked on my being here...and definding my Faith...

I personally don't see you doing anything wrong. In fact I've seen a lot worse behavior coming from our brothers. I just don't agree with your faith :taped:

That part I can live with! I do not come into these forums to proselytize anyone, but rather to defend my faith when it is challenged. Your "not believing in it" does not upset me at all!

I do not agree with Catholic doctrine, but need we be so anti-Catholic? They are not a cult, they are not antichrist, and those who truly love the Lord and have accepted Him will go to heaven...like it or not.

Revelation 5:8 states that only the elders and four creatures are the ones who bring the prayers of the saints (for all who have accepted Christ are saints). Plus, Acts 8:24, Romans 15:30, Ephesians 6:19, 1 Thessalonians 5:25, 2 Thessalonians 3:1, and Hebrews 13:18 all include request of prayer from those who are counted among the living. We also know that the purpose of those in heaven is to worship God continually and to have every tear wiped from their eyes (Greek metaphor to not know pain or suffering, ginosko, the Greek idea of knowing, not the Hebrew one). Thus how could one in Heaven take a prayer of suffering and place it before God when they are not to know what suffering is?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
