Accepting that the Christian woman's headcovering is Biblical, how should it be practiced?

I have just withdrawn my membership from a church where a certain type of headcovering was standard. We wear our hair up in a bun with a stiff, pleated white cap pinned over the back of our heads. This headcovering style defines this particular church and is almost a symbol of identity.

Now that I'm no longer a member, I'm not sure that I should keep wearing the same headcovering, as it seems like stating that I'm part of this church. But what are some practical considerations for modesty and a covering that is wearable and clearly Christian, but not identified with any particular church?

Is it modest to wear your hair down and a covering over? What type of headcoverings do you wear? Do you make your own or buy them? Do people recognize them as Christian?

In today's culture we no longer view women's wearing a head covering as a sign of submission. A woman has a choice to wear a head covering. It is not required. It is only a personal choice.

Okay, thank you.

I don't agree, but this thread isn't intended as a debate on whether or not to wear a headcovering.

Shall we say, this is something I have a firm conviction of in my own heart.

I'm just looking for a way to practice it now without causing confusion or offense.

I live in a city that has a large Muslim population. I like the modest head coverings worn by the women. Not so keen on the full burkha, but the simple scarf ...nice.

Covering our heads when praying or prophesying.......because of the angels, which potentially could fall........it is a sign of authority on our heads........to me it it is a way of communicating I belong to Someone and not available to anyone else, like wearing a wedding ring.....I find it is a reminder to both myself and angels as well as anyone in the church (some of whom could be angels, since we can entertain angels unawares) like a kind of unspoken boundary line.  We are not to take thought about what to wear, so we shouldn't have to beat our brains too hard......any kind of modest hat or scarf serves just fine in my opinion, whatever we are most comfortable in.  Personally I prefer a scarf...not too hot indoors and leaves less of a hat-head, also much less expensive and easy to carry in a purse.

Just now, Heleadethme said:

Who said ?

From Scripture, those that fell, fell.  Nothing written about future angels falling, is there ?

"For the angels" is a good testimony of obedience and God's order of authority, as written.

The word we may be  a presumption not warranted nor supported by fact.

For instance, I certainly recognize a woman's head covering as a act of obedience and in some situations an act of submission as well as of a faith filled obedience to God.

Hi,   Seems many  women that have chemo treatment going on  have a head covering. Unless you wear earmuffs, I don't believe I would thnk  even once about what you have, or don't have, on your head.
