How do you feel about Christians in the military?

I don't imagine many would have issues with support roles (mechanic, medic, certain coast guard jobs, etc) but feel free to include those if you do.

There is a wonderful very old movie and book on the subject the life and military experiences of Sgt. Alvin C. York.

It was my father's favorite movie, and mine too.

From a review of the book  come s this "In a world desperate for authentic heroes, the story of Alvin C. York reminds us of the true meaning of heroism. York's bravery on the battlefield made him famous, but it was his decision to turn down the easy riches of celebrity that secured his position as one of history's greatest Christian patriots. Based on new interviews with all of York's living children, and York's own diaries, this exhaustive biography follows the young soldier from the hills of Tennessee to the battlefields of France, down Broadway in a triumphant ticker-tape parade, and back home to his family farm where he spent the rest of his life in service to his community and his God."

Also see WIKI   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alvin_York

Can there be a higher example of a Christian walking the walk?

For those that do know  of the movie and the man, Wiki has a section that I did not realize: "During World War II, York attempted to re-enlist in the Army, however at fifty-four years of age, overweight, near-diabetic, and with evidence of arthritis, he was denied enlistment as a combat soldier. Instead, he was commissioned as a major in the Army Signal Corps and he toured training camps and participated in bond drives in support of the war effort, usually paying his own travel expenses. Gen. Matthew Ridgway later recalled that York "created in the minds of farm boys and clerks ... the conviction that an aggressive soldier, well-trained and well-armed, can fight his way out of any situation." He also raised funds for war-related charities, including the Red Cross. He served on his county draft board, and when literacy requirements forced the rejection of large numbers of Fentress County men, he offered to lead a battalion of illiterates himself, saying they were "crack shots." Although York served during the war with the rank of major in the Army Signal Corps and as a Colonel with the 7th Regiment of the Tennessee State Guard, newspapers continued to refer to him as "Sgt. York.""- from WIKI

I don't have a problem with Christians being in the military. They should be a light to those in the military that don't know Christ. I know Christian military personnel probably have no desire to enter battle but if they do they will serve their country as they have been called to do.

I have no problem with it. I was a combat infantryman, and my oldest son (now a pastor) was a weapons specialist in the 82nd Airborne, 15th PsyOps Bttn.

God is the Lord of Heavenly armies. God was the Lord guiding the Hebrew armies in the Bible. I see no conflict with a Christian joining the military.

John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Due to the fact that we are to love our enemies and JESUS told the solider do VIOLENCE to no man.   WELL if their were any christains in the military or are in the military

Better do as the amish did who got drafted before we got the conscientious objector.     hospital , work etc.    But no killing.  PEROID. not even self defense .

And years ago I was marine corpse .  Anti terrorism unit , then to the infantry later.  But I sure was no Christian in those days.

No problem, each to their conscience in this matter.

meats drinks and days .  not killing.

Do you remember when I said , that most people who remarry , also twist other sayings of JESUS.

I have never been proven wrong on that .  ever.

This is a sad day.   I truly wish we would just honor the SON by living HIS sayings.

Are we not ambassadors for the kingdom of God? Is it right that ambassadors take up armed conflict on behalf of the nation that is their host?
