I like to get into the discussions to see how others have arrived at their view and then see if it lines up with scripture.  I think it's a great way to learn new things.

Obviously, people are very passionate about what they believe and trying to convince others -- it helps to try and see the other persons point of view and then study it for yourself.  It's challengeing and it does sharpen your own views.

I say, let the discussions begin!! and continue, and continue....

I agree :P When I debate something, my goal is not necessarily to get someone to "convert" to my way of thinking. Instead, it's to attain a mutual understanding of the varying views. Of course, I get a little stronger in my arguments when I find someone's wilfully manipulating or misinterpreting scripture (by taking it out of context or otherwise)... :P

JMHO....I enjoy discussion and yes, even debate. I have grown immensely over the years in my understanding of my faith thru debate with others who differ in their convictions. Debate spurs me to study and research. It gives energy to my quest for deeper understanding. Even if I don't agree, I still learn to see things from another's perspective. I believe this does foster unity and not division.

However, I respect the fact that not everyone enjoys debate. Most of my friends do not, which is why I turn here for that endeavor.

Some of us are able to engage in heated debate and when the "bell rings" shake hands and leave the ring. Some of that happens thru "PM's" whch you do not see.

I try, as do some others, to leave pride out of the debate. (not saying I'm always successful) My goal is to work toward mutual understanding, if not agreement.

:o

I am blest by all that I meet here at Worthy, even the atheists and agnostics....and Catholic-bashers. :o

May the peace of Christ be with you,

Fiosh

I saw a sign that read this:

IF YOU WANT TO ATTRACT A CROWD, START A FIGHT

It is my theory that some of us (not just on this board, but generally on most discussion boards) are begging for attention from someone. The quickest way to do this is to start a board fight. It may not be the best way to get attention, but it works nonetheless.

Others just like to argue. They live for a good fight. They say they are fighting for God so they can justify it. Maybe their life at home is crumby. Maybe they can't get out like they would like.

I know this isn't the case with most, so please don't start your own personal disclaimer on this thread on my response. Just ask if you are one of these. If you really are not, fine. If it strikes true in your case, just repent and confess it and go on.

Most of us just like to talk about our thoughts and scriptures on different matters.

Guilty!!! :o:o

Sorry, gang. I enjoy the discussion/debate tremendously. Like pastoreric said, religious discussion is intense because it is such an important part of all of our lives.

That is why you can get Muslim warriors to do things that most regular soldiers won't do... like blow themselves up without end to the list of people lining up to do it.

People of faith are more committed to their faith than to anything else. So, it seems fitting that the fervor can reach a fevered pitch at times.

The important thing is to be gentle, kind, compassionate, and teachable yourself, and to never, ever, never, ever insult somebody. We are all family!

2Ti 2:24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

2Ti 2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

2Ti 2:26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

Not that fellow belivers of a different persuasion are "ensnared by the devil.." but the principle still applies. No striving... done in gentleness and patience.

I can honestly say that when I walk away from a debate I love the other person more, since I usually get to know that person much better. I never take a debate personally. And, I think that is the danger for some people. Some people are more apt to get emotionally involved rather than just engaging their minds.

Anyways, if I've offended anyone I truly apologize. I'm enjoying my time here at Worthy and am greatful for all of you guys/gals.

I prefer a good debate or discussion instead of fighting. If a topic gets heated over feelings and there is no profit in staying, I leave. I fight enough on a daily basis to come here and fight even more.

Totally feel the same way :emot-hug: I find you can tell a lot about someone by the way they conduct themselves in an argument. Since I can't see people's body language or hear their tone of voice on a message board (I can only make inferences by the way they write), I do find it's actually easiest for me to get to know someone's personality during a debate when I'm in this kind of setting. The result? A better understanding and love of that person.

I'm also open to being told when/if I'm being hurtful. If I do that, it's entirely unintentional, and I probably don't even know I've done it...so let me know!! The biblical method for confronting someone with an issue is by first going to that person with the issue, then if they won't do something about it, take it before two or three witnesses, then if they STILL refuse to do something about it, take it before leaders/authorities (on the board, that would probably mean Administrators/Moderators). Check out Matthew 18:15-17 for Jesus' instruction on that.

So, ya :o there you have it. Much love, all :o

And remember to HAVE FUN!

Most of us as Christians have made the study of the Word a primary part of our lives. And, it is a good thing to let it also let the Word flow out just as it flows in.

If we continually take in the word and never let it flow out then we can become stale.

I think thats a very astute statement Trust & Obey, if you just take in the Word, and never share it or discuss it..................what good is it actually doing you.

I think there are a very few (thank goodness) that like to argue, they HAVE to be right, I just leave the thread when that starts. You are never going to be able to have any type of meaningful conversation with someone like that, so why try.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
