Should women cover their heads during worship?

Oh boy, here we go...

I agree with those who feel the scripture refers to harlots in those days. It would be maybe compaired to women wearing a tubetop and a mini-skirt to church now days. I think it is trying to convey a message of modesty. In those days, women dressed much like the devout muslims of today, and women of all walks of life covered their heads.

Sorry boys, but what you have on your head does not signify whether or not you are insubmission to your own husband in your heart. I think we can all agree you'd rather have a short haired woman that is a god fearing, god following woman with the attributes he glorifies, rather than a contentious woman with a hat on...

I had often wondered if anyone other than the Mennonites were wearing coverings. I have always felt drawn toward wearing one, but my pride has gotten in the way. Any ideas?

I'm not Mennonite, and I wear one. Just a cotton scarf, triangular, right around my head. Nothing fancy.

There was a site called 'tznius' I think. They had lovely scarves from Jerusalem.

History shows us that people have long understood this passage to mean that a man takes off his hat when he prays. So if verse 4 means a man uncovers by removing something cloth from his head, then how can verse 5 mean anything else but that a woman should have something cloth covering her head? And for centuries, women did commonly wear something cloth over their heads, over their hair.

Guys dont forget all the times you saw the old ladies in church wearing hats. Whether its big ones with fruit on top, I guess they feel they should still follow it.

Oh yeah, many do, not just the Mennonites.

I think you hit the nail right on the head with your "pride" comment.

The only ideas I have are - go for it and be thick skinned enough to endure the looks and thinking you are "weird" or "so holy", or find a church that practices it.

How about covering your head while praying and having devotions at home, privately? Show your submission to God's order that way, and you may get more confidence to "go public". (lol)

Buy a yard of lace fabric at the material store or WalMart. Cut into a triangle and hem the edges.

I disagree with the person who said this does not mean hair as it clearly does.

That was probably me.

"If a woman doesn't have (hair, if you interpret 'head covered' as 'hair') , then let her be shaved". It just doesn't make any sense, and he was obviously referring to a material covering.
