Is competition unchristian?

Well if you are just talking sports, first where did they come from? Are they edifying to the body of Yeshua? Do they promote loving one another and increasing the kingdom of G-d?

Do they glorify the L-RD?

I would rather emulate the L-RD as we are instructed to do than compete against anyone.

Moshe competed so to speak against the powers of the magicians of Pharoah, and Eliyahu competed against the prophets of Baal, so to speak but yet it was the L-RDS power alone that "won".

Where do we see Yeshua competing against anyone? He did not have to prove anything.

Are you suggesting that Jesus' never played "kick the can" or whatever favorite pasttime kids in that era played? Did Jesus walk around with a hood on and his hands folded chanting "oooohhhhhmmmmmm" all day long?

I think Jesus, when He was a small boy, probably ran around like a child does, without the fighting and sin, and had fun.

COmpetition in itself is not bad. It is how we respond to competition that can be bad. Competition is like any other pressue situation. It reveals who we really are

I don't think the issue is competition itself but more the why and how we compete that reflects our true heart.

There is nothing wrong with competition in business, sports, and so on as long as the competition does not become the source of our focus. The end does NOT justify the means.

A good example of a competition that went awry is when the disciples of Christ argued about who would be the greatest in the Kingdom of the Lord. Have you ever noticed what passage of Scripture is tucked between the disciples of Christ arguing over who would be the greatest and the Triumphal entry of Christ as He entered into Jerusalem on His way to the cross? Jesus healed a blind man, Bartimaeus. [Mark 10]

The point? When we become blinded by our competition to be the greatest or best is when we open ourselves up to a big fall. Been there, done that. That is when Jesus, if we allow Him to, will heal our blindness and restore our spiritual sight.

I like playing pool. I'm good at it. Sometimes I get cocky if I win a few games in a row, especially if I'm playing against a good player. But when all is said and done, you win some, you lose some and everybody is still friends at the end. That's the way it should be.

competition has been around since Cain and Abel. It's how you accept your victory or defeat that counts. With humility or pride. If you can't take a beating,....then don't compete.
