Got a bit of news for the O/P

The snakes, reptiles and birds in the Everglades did not come from escapes or dumped pets. Along the Everglades to the west of Miami and south, every tropical fish, every bird, every reptile sold in America was beng breed along a corridor there. When Andrew hit, those animals escaped and went directly into the Glades. I did business with most of those guys before the hurricane. One or two snakes released from pet owners are faced with the challenge of getting a boy or girl friend along the way. But release hundreds of snakes both male and female at the same time .....modified dating game ....

Never mind the toilet, I wonder what little demons and creatures lurk under the wooden floors of my very old home. But somehow that's what the cat therefore; you know Tom and Jerry Stuff. Not just to lay around all day looking fat ; getting grub for nothing.I am not sure whether or not its all myth; but I am told by local farmers around here  that part of a cat's "job description" includes  snake detection, seek and chase away.

I had an aunt that had a sewer rat come up into their toilet while she was sitting doing her business...  you should hear husband telling of the commotion that resulted.  To make it worse the thing got scared of her rant and went back down......  and it is still down there in her mind.

My cousin has a very exclusive home in the Sacramento valley.  When we visited she warned us to inspect the toilet for rats before sitting.

Sometimes they come up while you're setting there.

Apparently that had happened to their teen aged son.   Hence the warning to house guests.

When my mom was a child, they had an outhouse.   She said a black snake was curled up on a shelf above the "toilet." Her dad came and removed the snake for her.

In the same area of PA, we later went on a couple of vacations....Youghiogheny Dam.   My dad loved to fish but ignored signs.    The sign by the dam said something about keeping out of there.   Dad and my cousin started climbing down the many boulders on that side of the dam.   Before long they came scurrying back up!   They started to hear all of this rattling and realized they were on top of Rattlesnake dens!

I worked all of Houston Texas for a plumbing company called crown plumbing, a mobile repair company... we work a radio dispatch. One morning I was sent to River Oaks, a high end wealthy area, and the lady met me at the door and looking quite traumatized said it's in there pointing to a door. I went into the bathroom expecting a stopped up toilet but found a squirrel looking up at the bottom of toilet... it evidently got down the venting system and into the toilet but got stuck in the turn of the toilet and drowned :o  I got gloves on and pulled it from the toilet and charged her 49.50 and was off... That lady was freaked out... it wasn't but was funny looking at her expression :24:
