CWJ - I was not putting my finger at you or calling you self-righteous at all. I was addressing the church a sa whole, that we have a tendency to, like Wisdom said so perfectly, "miss the big picture by looking at a little snapshot".

Sorry if it sounded like it was directed at you, ok?

Wisdom - you said it much better than I did! Thanks!

Interesting question -- this is something that happened to me a few years ago.

The Maryland Lottery had grown to a large sum of dollars.

Greetings All,

Just to add my 2c. "What is not of faith is sin." "Without faith it is impossible to please God. He who comes to God must believe that He exists and He is the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him."

$100 is nothing to a millionaire, so we have to look at this in perspective. What forms of entertainment do we indulge in that costs us money that might otherwise have gone to the poor, the hungry and the widow? Do you have cable TV? Do you purchase and read novels? Do you get the newspaper or other magazines? Do you go to shows or attend sporting events? What about that young child that comes to your door and you purchase some ostensibly "Christian books" from him. Could the money have been better spent? Who is to say that it wasn't the Spirit that directed the buying of a lottery ticket? Didn't the Hebrews "strike it rich" off the Egyptians? What about the group of Lepers that came across the enemies abandoned camp and took some treasure for themselves, but then decided they had to tell the king about it? Did they not benefit from the enemy?

I believe we are told by the scriptures that "anything" done to excess is sin, except perhaps for worshiping the Lord. So was our millionaire winner "blowing" his money away, or was he providing himself some entertainment for himself? I suspect the latter. I'm sure he had hopes of winning, but I don't believe that "chance" is ruling his life. Do you?

Blessings,

Dad Ernie

One thing for sure....I'll be glad when we're all "perfect"....right? HA!

So far I've found where they "cast lots" for things, so, isn't that like taking a "chance", or gambling?

Waiting for some scriptures.

Hello George

You said:

Now this is the scenerio -- what if your parents bought you lottery tickets?  This was the situation about 3-4 years ago, my mom had gone out and bought 5 lottery tickets and gave them as part of the "stocking" gifts.

What would happen if I had won?  What should I have said?  You see how interesting this situation can become.

Just another thought and seeing what you would have done in my situation.  I will describe what I did after I see what some others say.

1) If I knew that my mother intended to go out and buy lottery tickets as a gift to me I would ask her not to. In your case you did not know your mother was going to do this. So therefore you did not do anything wrong did you?

2) So what if you had won? Why would that have anything to do with your decision to say anything or not? The only time you would need to decide what to say or if to say anything is when you discovered your mother had given you tickets. you could have decided to say:

a) Thank you mom for the gift and I appreciate the thought behind it, but please don't buy me another present like that because......................................

b) Sorry mum but I cannot accept this gift because..........

c) Thanks mom.

There is probably a lot more options to think about? I'm not sure this is the type of reply you where looking for George?

whatsitmean, help me out here will ya?

Where do you see the connection of the Urim and Thummin to the casting of lots?  And where are you finding it that the casting of lots revealed the Lord's will, not being of chance?

Thanks for your replies.

Still hoping someone can help out on this subject of the lottery.....

SHOULD HIS CHILDREN PLAY?

Blessings, Carl

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
