In today's Christianity it is absolutely a sinful lifestyle. Going to another country as an excuse to hookup with more than one wife is not God's will in my opinion. There's nothing to substantiate justification for it either.

Not even acceptable in today's beliefs or practices of Judaism. It was done away with a millenia ago.

And Titus also confirmed it as well. Sounds good enough, especially applicable to today's true Christianity. 

Titus 1:6 ⁶If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

Well if the friend seeks to be a pastor, then yes he would be in sin  in taking another wife. But in the above scenario, unless I missed something his friend is not a pastor nor seeking such a job, so it would still be permissable.

I would never consider taking the position of a pastor, deacon, or elder either. And still where it would be permissible, I couldn't feel right about bringing that sort of potential problem into a marriage. It didn't work out between Sarah and Hagar either. If a so-called Christian man is foolish enough to think it would work, best of luck. He'd certainly need more than luck to make it successful.

No it didn't, and that was my point. While it maybe permissible, that doesn't make it a good idea. I stated that Biblically it is not prohibited, so it is not a sin, unless local law doesn't allow it or your a pastor, but that doesn't make it a wise choice either. I can't imagine ever wanting to do so myself, one wife is more then enough trouble as it is lol.

Notice it is only men that want more than one spouse Women have more sense and don't want all the extra work cleaning up after more than one man

I think some men find it appealing because they think  it will mean more /varied sex

It certainly didn't profit King Solomon, having resorted to idolatry in his later years. His choice of taking wives that weren't from Hebrew lineage wasn't so wise after all, was it?
