Amazing ( good) diagnosis! High Altitude sickness. Named because it is descriptive of the symptoms  a person may suffer, being similar to what someone might have from rapid changing of atmospheric pressure on the body. Same as the "bends" a diver might incur. it as I understand it simply means the components of blood cells are not functioning properly. It has little or nothing to do with pneumonia.Noe with the lung's ability to take in air. 

Some 44 years ago my toddler son came down very sick while we were in the mountains. The doctor there said he had high" Altitude sickness" and that we should get down to the city and get treatment. I thought he was a country quack! We did head down to the city, ended up with a child in the hospital fighting for his life. One nurse comforting me with  the statement He is a fighter I think he will make it.  he did after along battle. t the time I did not realize high altitude sickness is an actual diagnosis meaning the blood is oxygen starved rather than the lungs are suffering pneumonia.

Your sharing of your granddaughter's condition brought that memory to the forefront of my mind. High Altitude sickness- having little to do with whether someone has been at high altitude  or not, it is descriptive of the symptom not a condition only occurring at high altitudes. That mountain doctor of long ago knew what he was stating.

Thank you , she is fine as is her mum , her youngest sister and her cousin that all had it ( although only Danielle and her mum were very ill the little ones managed as children so often do to still play along with numerous naps and being persuaded to drink more than they wanted to lol ) The day her final blood test results came back to the doctors surgery they closed the doors, deep cleaned and implemented lock down procedures with video conferencing and no patients allowed into the center without a timed appointment and an escort from a nurse so I have spent weeks praying that she didn't pass it to any vulnerable people by being sent to the hospital for blood tests etc but I guess we will never know and just keep thanking God that they are strong and healthy enough to have fought it off
