Just wondering if anyone has a recommendation for buying a rocking chair.   Any particular company?   I have a plush chair now but was wondering about getting a wooden rocking chair.    Are they comfortable?

It seems like they all require assembly now.   Are they very hard to assemble?

I looked at a few and finally bought two at the end of summer a few years ago  as they were on sale and I got two of them for less than one in a charity shop would have cost me ??????:noidea:

You have to try them out as there are so many differences such as how tall the back is and even how much of a slope is in it Everyone has different needs ( the ones I bought are higher in the back and fairly straight as that suits me BUT they are actually too high for me to have my feet comfortably on the floor so I tend to have my feet on the rockers themselves.

I also have a padded rocking chair with a rocking foot stool that all the grandchildren love to sit in

Think about if you want it indoors or out ...the wooden ones I have without padding can be left outside for most of the time but the padded one wouldn't do in the rain

I actually bought a piece of thin ( ish ) foam and covered it in material for the wooden chairs as it is not all that comfortable to sit on the wood for more than a short time so lots to think about before you buy  but once you have one that suits they are great

Oh and the shop I bought mine from were very happy to sell the display models ( and reduced the sale price because they were ex display ) but it also meant that they were already put together so no work for me :emot-highfive:

Hi Debbie,

You're correct in sending away for most modern rocking chairs. They do take some simple tools for a reasonable working assembly. Here's what the ex missus did. She found one that rather than rocking on curved angles, this one was like those ski exercising machines. It was a back and forth type of base, and also came with an ottoman or footstool. It rocked back and forth, while being in the comfort of the chair.

It was pretty nice. Now the drawback. Being a rather inexpensive kit, it didn't have much long lasting endurance. The wood was light weight and not all that durable. Oh, well. It decent while it lasted. I guess you get what you pay for. Something more sturdy would have been heavier and shipping is usually a weight factor in cost. However, heavier wood is more durable in the long run.  All the best finding a good one.

Shabbat Shalom,

I had a rocking chair years ago when my children were babies. It was quality and comfortable. I would find a good furniture store that makes quality furniture and have them make me one. Too bad you do not live close to the Amish. The make fabulous rocking chairs.

They are wonderful, but cost is into hundreds of dollars. Perhaps more. Even an antique will be very expensive. If there is talent for being able to restore a good used one in rough looking condition, this could be a possibility. YouTube videos can give tutorials step by step. It takes effort and work but extremely cost effective. By the way, a wealthy friend of mine purchased a Shaker cabinet for $1,500.00. Very expensive, but finely crafted. This was in the year 2ooo.

Well, for now our plush rocker is still (amazingly) holding together.   But it is really old and once the final screws come off.....the bottom is attached to the top.   But it's impossible to screw back some of the screws.   It's comfortable but my mother claims it all day!  I get it from Midnight to 1 A.M. when I watch my sci fi show!

With Covid-19 and having to take a taxi to stores, can't really shop in store now.    But once in a while I gaze at the internet rockers!

I grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  Amish country was just somewhat North of Pittsburgh.   Now I realize about all of the nice little Amish towns with quilts and such in little shops.   Would have been interesting to see.   Also, I understand Pennsylvania has more covered bridges than New England.   Those would have been nice to see as well.

You are right the authentic ones are expensive but the quality great.

Indeed they are. Mom had one and it was simple, being not too fancy. Some had elaborate carving work one them depending on when and where they were hand crafted. She was a huge fan on antiques and was a clever bargainer. I remember her dragging me around to what she called, "junk stores." Anyway, it's gone now as are most of her antique collection and rare pieces. My granny was too. I guess it ran in the family.

I call them thrift stores, and enjoy looking around them.   Mainly I enjoy buying some tops or slacks there.   I only buy what looks new and am very happy with the prices!   I love a bargain!   One Goodwill I would go to was adjacent to Beverly Hills so really nice clothing.

Some years ago, a church nearby had a thrift store.   I would donate things to them.   Also, buy some clothes there that were nice looking.   I also found good theological books there, including old hymnals.   One hymnal was 50 years old a few years ago....I did give it to the worship leader  at a Korean church.   Thought maybe we would sing more hymns that way but he left shortly after that!

Once I needed a lamp and found a pretty lamp for only $7 - great bargain!   After this Covid-19 stuff, would love to pay a visit to one of the Goodwills again!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
