Well i was recently looking at a map of ancient middle east trying find the exact location of Nineveh and discovered it was actually over 500 miles from the nearest port, either on the Black Sea or Mediterranean. So my question is how did Jonah get there so quickly, apparently arriving on the first day after the whale "dropped him off"??? The only thing i can think of is maybe there was a river such as the Tigris/Euphrates that was accessible to the sea in those days, but has long since been dried up? Other than that i can only guess it was one of those "catching away" events such as what happened to Philip in Acts 8:39-40?  (BTW-Mosul,Iraq is where the ruins of Nineveh are today, and there is actually a mosque there named after the Prophet Jonah).

Chapter 3 indicates that Nineveh has a 3 day's walk from where he ended up.  Not a day.

The time it took for him to walk through the city was one day's walk.

Jonah also looked a wreck after being undigested in the stomach lining of the great fish and he was drenched in bile, disgusting fish phlegm, and other acidic upper intestinal juices. Yes, he was a real mess! So, first he needed a new robe, sandals, and head covering. Also a shampoo, rinse, conditioner, set, and style, was essential before being allowed in to see the king of Nineveh. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been presentable. No one gets to see his Majesty of Nineveh looking like a tramp on the streets. They would have probably thrown him out the palace!

Multiply that 23mph by 72 hours (3 days and 3 nights) and you get 1656 miles.

Captain Walker, I don't see where it says how long it took Jonah to get to Ninevah.

The end of chapter 2 says "the whale vomited him out".

The beginning of chapter 3 says "the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time and said go to the great city of Nineveh".

Then it says "Jonah obeyed and went to Nineveh".

I don't see a timeline of how long all this took.  It does say that when Jonah got there, it took three days to walk around the whole city.  It also says Jonah walked around one days journey in the city before the king repented.

Jonah 3:1-4

Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying, "Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and proclaim to it the proclamation which am going to tell you."  So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh according to the word of the Lord.  Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, a three day's walk.  Then Jonah began to go through the city one day's walk; and he cried out and said, "Yet forty days and Nineveh will be overthrown."

The first time frame referenced is how long it would take for Jonah to get to Nineveh from where he was vomited out of the fish/whale.  The second time frame was how long it took him to walk through the city.

There is no indication as to either the time between Jonah being released from the whale and God speaking to him.. Nor is there any indication as to the amount of time Jonah took to reach Nineveh in the scriptures.. The tree days mentioned where the time it would take Jonah to go through the city of Nineveh proclaiming the warning of God..

I agree with that, since a 3 days walk is about 60 miles or more depending on how many hours a day you are walking. If he went non-stop then he could have covered over 150 miles, but it's probably not very realistic. And since there are no modern waterways that connect any rivers from the sea to Nineveh, we just have to assume there was one back in those days, and i'm guessing it would have been the Tigris/Euphrates, since it was wide enough at least for a whale to swim a good ways up it. Either way maybe it doesn't seem like a big deal if you believe the story 100%, but always good to have some facts straight if you are ever debating this with an unbeliever.

The Holy Scripture at no moment says how much time Jonah spent to arrive in Nineveh.

You're right and i guess it really makes no difference as far as whether or not a true believer/Christian believes this event really happened just as "Holy Scripture" says it did...but it just makes it that much harder to convince the naysayers, who take this as just some made up "fish tale".

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
