Graven images?

What make it a graven image?

images are not forbidden only graven images!

Does graven mean carved? If so the Ten Commandments are a graven image carved by the finger of God?

Go back and read the Biblical text. Exodus 20.

God said, "#1 - Don't worship any god other than Me."  He then explained, "#2 - Don't carve out an image of any thing on the earth or in the sea or in the heaven and bow down and worship it."

So when Aaron shaped out the gold calf with a tool and told the people that "this is the god that brought you out of Egypt" THAT was in defiance of the 2nd commandment.

The commandment is against carving out something with the likeness of a star, owl, wolf, person, shark - any created thing that God made and worshipping THAT thing AS God or as a god is the deal breaker.

God carving letters on a rock is NOT in defiance of the commandment.  

Besides, people carving out communications on rocks before parchment was invented would have been a sin, too.  It was not.

So it’s really worshiping something other than the one true God that would be a sin not making an image? I agree after all God commanded Moses to make a bronze serpent, and the ark of the covenant has angels over it, and a Jesus is the image of the invisible Father, and as you yourself said the cross is an image or representation of the resurrection!

Please read John Ch 1: He was with God in the beginning. ³ Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 

 

Which shows your post is not correct.  Yes God didn't make your computer etc but he through Jesus created the elements it was constructed from, as well as the intelligence in the men who gathered all the material, knowledge, technology etc to make your computer.

A graven image is an object made by man to represent a deity. 

All images of Jesus and Mary are graven images. Graven images don't have to be something carved. Paintings can also be a graven image. 

Did you know there's a passage in the bible that references that well known image of Jesus? There's also a description of what Jesus doesn't look like. God's way of telling us that image of Jesus is fake.

I have picture of Jesus a gold cross with Christ on it. The picture is not Jesus.. that gold cross is not Christ. I have never looked at it as if it was Him.. thats silly. So don't talk to it haha...don't hold the cross in my hand and pray..OH JESUS! Blood of Jesus.

So if those things bother you and to you they are graven images then you best get rid of them. In 59 years.. oh this is the only time I will boast...today is my birthday... 60 today.. XMas in March

If someone saw the cross on my neck and it bothered the.. I would in a heart beat take it off. Then back home I would but it back on. 

Its not what MAN says about that word of GOD. Find out what HE alone said. Pray ask the holy Spirit to open your eyes. Listening to man all you get is what that man/woman personally believes.

The Creator banned the construction of images for two reasons:

1 - It is not for us to worship and pray who we imagine He is, but who He really is. He wants to relate personally, live, with us;

2 - The human being is the image of the Creator (Gen 1: 26,27).
