Moving Forward or Dying

I was just curious about everyone's thoughts on something that my youth pastor just said tonight: "You are either moving forward in your Christian walk, or you are dying. You never seen anyone just standing still on a mountain, they are either going up or going down."

Well, I disagree. one needs to occasionally stop take in a deep breath and enjoy the view. If you are constantly moving you can not really enjoy the trip, and I think it is important to enjoy the trip.

interesting.. you mean like moments of peace? like when we should still be trusting the Lord in everything.. and still be reading his word and strive to be better in him???

We are never supposed to be content with where we are in teh christian life.. we need to be constantly growing.. if we stop growing, we start backsliding..

Actually, I agree with it.

In Revelation 6:2 and 19:11 (cf. Rev. 19:14; Zech. 1:8; 6:3). the Lord sits upon a white horse. The white horse symbolized the gospel which is constantly going out into the world.

In Psalm 50:1 says that God is calling to the whole inhabited earth from the rising of the sun until the going down thereof.

I believe in terms of the gospel, or proclaiming the glory of the Lord and the victory of His cross there can be no sitting still. The gospel must go out.

I think we're looking at it from two different views but still agreeing.

You're looking at the big picture, that we either need to be moving forward or we're dying. I'm looking at the everyday life, that sometimes we merely need to take a break. Jesus would often escape crowds and go to the lake simply to rest and be with His friends.

So I think we're seeing the same thing but from two different views.

It depends on what he meant by "moving forward". If he meant growing, then yes he's right. But growing doesn't necessarily mean "moving"...remember "Be still and know that I am God"? Sometimes growing closer to God means being still, quieting our soul and just resting in Him. Other times it means actively serving and doing something. The key is just being sensitive to the Holy Spirit, listening and obeying.
